Have you done 5HTP?
It worked well for me but as an add on to an SSRI--had to stop due to potential serotone sydrome-
It may help.

Hi CC -

You've probably already posted this before, but why did you quit taking Remeron? Did you take anything before Remeron? (I have taken this before..great sleeping pill for me but way to much daytime drowsiness.)

I'm one of those people who has already decided that I will be on psych meds for the rest of my life. When one is not working, or quits working, or starts giving me problems, I am one that will switch meds or my combination of meds rather than totally go off medication. I remember what it was like before I started meds (ugly - I actually considered suicide a number of times). I started my first drug (an MAOI) back in 1982 or so. I've been making my way through various prescriptions since then.

So, from where I stand, life is hard enough. I don't think there is any reason for you to go through this much anxiety, fear, and a feeling of losing your mind if you don't absolutely have to.

Now, on the other hand, it may take you more than a month to truly determine how you really feel off the medications. Things could get better or worse. I'm not really a fan of this option though it may be right for you.

CC, I wish you the best no matter what you decide!

Charm

Just my 2 cents here crazychick......
I have been AD free goinf on month 4...and up until the last 2 weeks I STILL felt the after effects of several years of AD use!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not withdrawal...that went away after a month.

I am just NOW (3 plus months later) seeing life
COMPLETELY free of the "cushioning" effects of
Zoloft and Effexox.

My point is it takes to time. I am convinced that these powerful Meds stay with us , in maybe trace amounts...for a long time.
Or.....they "change" our bodies ability to handle previously "handeled" stressors...and it takes our system many months to fully recover.
It continues to be My experience...and of course just my opinion.

Give your brain a shot. Believe me when I say that I can empathize. I am going through the same thing right now after coming off of depakote, zyprexa, and lexapro. I have the same exact symptoms as you do.

Anyways, things that have really helped me in the last week have been tons of exercise. Even when I feel my crappiest I go out and get on my bike. It definitely helps.

Second, I was in a terrible emotional state coming off these and I am still having my difficulties, but I have made a decision to turn my life over to Christ and I can already feel the difference. Will that take away your symptoms like a lighting bolt. No, but it will give you the strength to cope much better. Don't mean to get preachy, but that is what helps me.

I am determined to let my brain gain it own equilibrium. WHile it may be intolerable at times as it is for me, letting the brain sort of gain its equilibrium is surely worth giving it a shot. The meds will always be there. They aren't going anywhere and you can go back to them anytime. In the meantime, give it some time, get some exercise and treat your body right with nutrition, and tap into that higher power. Like I said, you can always go back to the meds.

I've had these symptoms and I attibruted it to the meds messing with my head (after much time of contemplating the possible cause) .. Continued treatment did not seem to improve these symptoms... I had NEVER experienced any of these effects before the meds...I don't even feel depressed now so i can't correlate it with the depression causing these symptoms..

I just feel really out of it...I feel like I am in a different world then everyone else...I am having trouble relating to people as well as I use to...My personality feels warped and disfigured..I just don't feel like myself at all..It's really scarry...I'll take anxiey depression over this anyday..I just want to feel "normal" again..being what I once was..

Just giving you my experience..I am not saying this is the case...I just noticed a similarity in symptoms I am going through..

I first went on paxil and after being on it a year i started having concentration problem..just general brain problems...and all that...

I stopped the paxil and the...symptoms continued so I assumed I was still depressed.. I started lexapro..symptoms didn't improve..I then went on prozac..symptoms still didn't improve (depression improved in all of them..but thats it.. I still felt disoriented..slow...strange thoughts occuring..just plain out of it) I have been off all drugs except ritalin for about 4 months.. I just feel hopeless...I can't seem to get any answers...I find people on the internet who complain of all this but they seem to be a very select few..

Hi,

When I came off 20mg of Seroxat (which worked really well for me) about 8 years ago or so, for a couple of weeks I felt rough but nothing like as bad as I had when I first ever got depressed, I was coming off and then after about a month I was ok, not brilliant but ok.

But I realise now that I was only really taking a small amount and they had such an insant effect, I remember feeling almost elated when I first started taking them so they must have worked really well.

I can't help feeling that if you find something that really works then after a while you would be able to come off them and feel ok again but if you've been taking something that has only had marginal results and you have not really fully recovered then when you come off them you will be in the same boat. So I reckon that that is why you feel so crap now. I don't think the Remeron ever worked for you properly, ever really put you into full recovery and that's why you're back depressed when you came off them.

I only believe that because now that I am taking 40mg which don't work that well anymore if I stop taking them for just a few days I start sliding back into suicide thoughts land again.

What do you think, did the Remeron help you much do you think when you were on them or only partly?

Hi Slinky,

Can you get 5HTTP from a health shop or do you have to get it on prescription from your doctor.

And did it really help to get the antidepressants working properly for you do you think?

It helped with great for sleep--much deeper less freaky dreams and helped with going outside..maybe because of less anhedonia.
I bought it online..only took 50mg at night
I posted here a while back about symptoms--it made my heart palpitate and got night sweats so I was scared about serotone syndrome.
It did help ..I may consider it again in the future.

Hi Slinky,

Thanks for that although most of the vitamin suppliments and alternative things have really worked for me so reluctant to waste any more money.

I'll try adding it to my regime.

Just thought to add, I am getting really freaky dreams, they're either really sinister and dark or really sexual or both, so I'd like to nip those in the bud :-)

I don't mind having sexual dreams but I'm starting to feel like a raving nymphomaniac.
