Could it be that the physical side of your anxiety and panic are just overwhelming you right now? That can happen, sometimes.

Two ways to approach anxiety: the psychological, if you work yourself up into a frenzy; or physical. If you attack the physical side of it, the over production of adrenaline, etc, it may make it easier to address the psychological. Can you ask your doctor about that?

Also, having just had a frenzy of drugs that didn't work myself, I know that I get too gunshy after a while to give new drugs a chance. Is it possible that you can find some source of support to get you through the adjustment period? Maybe a therapist? Maybe a friend? Maybe a check in call from the doctor's office to see how you're doing? Just something that encourages you to stick with it a little longer, so that you don't miss out on a winner?

By the way, I say that as someone who owes a heck of a lot to two people from this very board who have acted as both reality checks and cheerleaders in encouraging me to give my new drug a fair shot -- despite the fact that I hate the way it makes me feel so much I *want* to stop it most days. I'm glad I didn't just stop, even though I may feel lousy, because I also know that I am responding to it -- just not as well as I would like. And as someone who is going to talk to the doctor at next visit about options for turning down the tap on adrenaline.

It sounds to me as if most of what you're going through has nothing to do with the drugs -- it's the anxiety messing with you. Write down what you need the doctor to know -- that you're dropping meds in days because you're freaked out beyond belief by this point, amongst other things -- ask about ways to hold your hand a bit during adjustment, ask about ways to reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety -- at least temporarily -- and get into that doctor's office. Plan to give the recommended treatment a fair shot at working. Find someone to hold your hand while you start out.

Best luck to you.

Hi.

If I remember correctly, Remeron was working fine for you until you were switched to the SolTabs. Is this right? How well was it working for you?

You sound like a combination of me on Effexor and me on nothing at all. I have depression and anxiety. The "cotton wool on the brain", extreme tiredness, problems sleeping, feeling detached from reality--all very familiar. They go away when I am properly medicated.

Hi CC,

Are you sure you can't get generic Mirtazapine? Down under it comes in two generics & two brand names: Remeron & Avanza, both football shaped tabs stamped Organon. Even the box looks the same, price is completely different however. :) We can still get the old version of the drug too: Mianserin.

Can you get Wellbutrin or Zyban? We can only get Zyban here to assist with quitting smoking.

Cheers,
Panda.

there's only a month's supply of mirtazapine left in Wales? Take the mirtazipine to slow down your panic attacks and worry about next month when it comes.

I think your sense of detachment might be a worsening of the depression itself. It is difficult to say whether or not it will subside with time. Your central nervous system is still in a state of change from your stopping medication. It might just be a temporary passing phase occurring as your system adjusts.

I think you need to sit down and decide what you need to do to help yourself get well. This almost certainly includes continuing with drug trials to find a treatment that will effectively treat your depression and anxiety. You must accept that you will experience side effects at the beginning of each drug trial. Many of these, of course, witll subside over time. Discuss with your doctor what the possible side effects are before you begin any new medication, and what you can do about them if they appear. This way you will be prepared to tolerate. Take things one step at a time. Your doctor might have done a very good thing by allowing both you and your brain settle down. Use this time to get it straight in your mind what you have to do. Make a plan and try to stick to it. Ask questions now. Work with your doctor to put the plan together. You might also profit greatly from seeing a counselor.

You have a bunch of people who are very interested in seeing you feel better. We'll be keeping an eye on you. Ask questions. Resolve to win the war. You will. Take one constructive and positive step at a time.

Relax. Slow down. You'll get there.

Why do you say the psychiatrist is "useless"? What was it about her you didn't like? Is it possible that she might have been on to something, but you weren't ready or willing to hear it? What actually happened with her?

The sad truth is that some doctors, psychiatrists or GPs, really aren't all that great. On the other hand, the psychiatrist is the doctor most likely to have the experience to treat mental illness. Sad, but true. Even if you don't like her, she may still be the best choice for you in your situation.

Give us a little more information, and maybe someone can help with some advice on how to get the best result if you do go back to her.
