*****depression, anxiety could be THYROID prob!!!!

Posted by alesta on August 28, 2004, at 10:57:26

hello,

some of us on this board may have a simple thyroid disorder as opposed to a psychiatric one! thyroid disorders are one of the most misdiagnosed conditions...they throw off the balance of many things in the body, including norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin levels. a blood test can verify whether you have the disorder...here is a link for hypothyroidism:

I read the article, my question is: do you know if zyprexa can result in low thyroid function. My T4 levels sometimes are low but tsh is normal. I also will have other related symptoms. Anyway it's an interesting thought, would appreciate feedback. Thanks

Thanks for helping. I've looked at a few other web sites on this topic and did find that lithium can cause thyriod disfunction. Because I am certain that I am having some sort of disfunction, I'm calling for an appt with my internist tomorrow. I still will appreciate any input on this topic as my internist is not very well versed on my phych meds. I can consult with my pdoc, he's pretty good, but not always perfect. Thanks again.

hello there, chemist here....there is evidence (refs provided if you want, or do what i did, go to pubmed and have a browse) that says yes, and evidence to the contrary. this medication - and moban - are not on my radar, thus i can only regurgitate what is available to the public. given the weight gain experienced on zyprexa by almost everybody, the thyroid link is not far-out....all the best, chemist

I've taken zyprexa about 6 years, my mom, dad, and 2 brothers have a thiroid problem, but not ever me. If it does affect thyroid, it must be in a good way!

I guess the reason that I have a connection to zyprexa and hypothyrodism in my head is because I was off it for the most of 9-10 months last year. I was primarily on abilify (except weekends when I would sneek in 2.5 mg zyprexa to sleep) and during that time my facial puffiness, tiredness, and other symtoms (and lab work) improved. A few months after I resummed zyprexa these symptoms returned. It may be coincidense, but it doesn't hurt to investigate. A little lab work will answer part of the puzzle. Thanks for contributing.
