Ativan w. Effexor?

Posted by sobstory on August 26, 2004, at 17:37:55

I take Serax at night when I can't sleep due to anxiety. Sometimes I get panic attacks in my sleep, so that helps. But my doctor told me to take Ativan during the day because I have recently started to get panic attacks during the day at work. Does Ativan knock you out? Will I get really sleepy, and is it okay to take while on Effexor XR? I still need to be able to function at work.

Thanks

ss

Ativan made me very sleepy. Effexor was definitely the right depression and anxiety med, but for me we added Wellbutrin to keep me from cyring, and now I take Ambien to sleep and xanax for the panic attacks, as needed. Which is totally unpredictable, which is what makes them so full of panic!

Don't know if this helps but it's more fodder for you...

when i was on effexor all though it did nothing, I tried the ativan and it sedated me. xanax for anxiety and temazepam (restoril) to sleep is the breakfast of champions for my pony.

ya still running that name sobstory, tisk tisk tisk, your message board sister has not claimed greek goddess you sould claim it. You are both worthy of the name!

Did the xanax make you drowsy? I need something that can calm me during the day if I'm having a panic attack without making me sleepy, if that's at all possible. Most days, I feel great on Effexor without anxiety or depression, but the odd day, I feel very tingly and light headed, which can cause a panic attack, which then causes a bout of depression. Staying completely away from caffeine helps.

How about Artemis? I was thinking about that, but too lazy to change my name again because then I have to re-register. But you're right-it may change my karma. I believe in those kinds of things too.

I keep getting a tingling sensation up my left arm and the back left side of my head. Kind of like a cold chill but just isolated to those two spots on my body. Wierd. I hope I don't have a stroke!

Xanax did not sedate me, for which I believe it's because of it's short half life.

Personally I really enjoy trying new meds, because if you don't how will you know if you are missing out on something?

Get with your doc, set up a trial with him. See of he can prescribe you 2 of a few diferent types. You will find your prefered meal :P

I admired Artemis. As you well know she was the goddess of wilderness, hunter, wild animals, and fertility ( hmmm fertility you trying to tell me something :P).

I have went through several of Anthony (Tony) Robins courses. He's the motovational speaker who has spoke to many presidents. Tony really pushes to place oneself around positive people, speak positive words, think positive, visualize objectives and goals. To manage enjoyment he pushes finding significance, certanity, uncertainity, belonging out of all tasks. He is huge on positive priorities. I don't think anything is brainwashing if it helps one focus and think more positively.

Whats my point? Artemis is a wonderful choice! Anything you can do to positively impact your direction go for it! The more you think of her the more you will visualize her great attributes and the greater you will become!

What better group of people then this board need a little positive karma, egh?

cheers M8

What I found was that the generic (lorazepam) acted more like a sleeping pill while the name brand (Wyeth Ativan) acts like an anxiolytic. I take it during the day only, and it helps me function at work.
