Seroquel or Increase Effexor?

Posted by Maximus on August 26, 2004, at 14:09:13

Hi,

I have a question for you. I'm BP II and i'm taking the following meds: Effexor XR 150 mg, Lamictal 300 mg and Rivotril-Klonopin 0.5 as needed.

Recently, since 2 weeks approximately, anxiety has increased very badly. Moreover i lost my sleep. I'm totally insomniac and irritable. I don't feel accelerated nor i feel depressed. Well that's what i think but i may be wrong, though.

By phone my pdoc gave me the choice to increase my Effexor from 150 to 225 mg or start Seroquel at night at 50 mg.

What might be the best for me? Any suggestions? In fact i want to sleep and be a gentle guy (no irritability or anger). No kidding.

Thanks to answer quickly.

Regards.

Hi Maximus,

Not sure if I can help....I'm also BPII, take Effexor XR 350mg, Zonegran 200mg, and Klonopin as needed. I was prescribed Seroquel to be used as a mood stabilizer and all it did was totally knock me out...like a zombie. But it does not do this to everyone, that's for sure. I had no problems with Lamictal, other than it just didn't seem to do anything at all for me. I might suggest you increase your Effexor, since you seem to be on a fairly low dose.

Sorry not to be of much help! Good luck,
Sooshi

Thanks Sooshi,

I consider seriously to increase the Effexor. I think i will know fast enough if this dosage pumps up the anxiety and anger.

On the other hand, i'm still fascinated by the mechanism of action of Seroquel.

I will let you know!
