Does this happen to anyone else?

Posted by AntiTrust on August 14, 2004, at 22:13:27

Anyone else like this?

I am more 'scattered brained' then usual. I start something then forget and go off to something else...I guess this wouldn't be a problem unless you are cooking on a stove...twice I have started to boil something and have forgotten it was on the stove. once caught it before a fire started, once caught it after flamed irrupted =(

Yup!
You are not alone! I deal with psuedo-dementia and cognitive dysfuntion and weird memroy problems, every single hour of every single day. Verrrry frustrating and agonizing. On a positive note though, I did notice that while I was giving Lamictal a trial, that it seemed to "clean up" my thought processes. I wish I could be of more help.
Good Luck to You

If the Lamictal was working, why did you stop? Are you taking a different mood stabilizer now?

Hi theo, I quit the Lamictal because it was exacerbating my anxiety, causing me more sleep problems than I already had and my pdoc was not willing to compromise in cutting the dose to 100mg instead of 200mg per day to see if I could still get some benefits. To him it was all or nothing at all. Right now all I am taking is Effexor, Valium, and Gabatril. If Gabatril is considered a mood stabilizer at all, I am not sure what it is doing. Other than the fact that I just got finished having 6 ECT treatments-I think that and the Gabatril may be co-contributing to my long standing depressive symptoms of cognitive stupidity. I swear that somewhere along the way, that someone came in and stole 30 to 40 pts. off my IQ! It is so frustrating. Sorry about long reply. I hope I answered your question adequetley. I am just so sick of all this BS.Where and how does one separate side effects from meds from the original symptoms of depressive illness?

My pdoc is the same way, all or none. I was taking Keppra which was working good for anxiety but not for depression so she added Lamictal. Now I'm on two mood stabilizers, feel like a zombie, and don't know which one to keep as a mood stabilizer, the Keppra or Lamictal because I can't tolerate both. I want to take a mood stabilizer with an antidepressant and don't know if the Keppra or Lamictal would be better with an antidepressant. I'm confused!!
