Seroquel

Posted by almondjoy on August 11, 2004, at 18:06:06

i've been on lexapro for almost a year...seemed okay until a couple weeks ago and had a breakdown. pdoc started me on seroquel, i took 25mg yesterday afternoon and 50mg last night...and i feel better already
does seroquel work right away or is this placebo affect?

im being treated for depression and anxiety. does this mean my pdoc thinks i have psychosis too?

Glad you are feeling better. I've been on a Lexapro 10mg/day and Seroquel 25-50mg/day regimen for about 6 months now and it has helped me a great deal.

I don't think there's a placebo effect with Seroquel. I assume you took the Seroquel for sleep, like I do. First time I took Seroquel it really helped me to sleep and stay asleep. Just getting enough real rest was probably a big help right there. I know Seroquel is an atypical anti-psychotic, but in low doses it is frequently used to help you sleep a bit better (it is sometimes used in the 400mg+ range, which is 16x or 8x of what we are on), or as a mood stabilizer.

The combo works well for me. Hope it works out for you...

actually, i was sleeping (not very well though) i had to make an emergency appt to see him because over the past couple weeks i was feeling more and more out of control...unraveling...irrational maybe

i just dont know if seroquel could really help me feel more together only 24 hours later and at such a low dose (75mg yesterday). im glad about it either way, but am i really "psycho" now?

my guy reminded me im the same person i was last month and last year whatever you want to call it and whatever meds im taking but...

My sleep was poor before I started the Lexapro (easily awakened, difficult to get back to sleep, as I have 3 young kids).

When I started on the Lex, I was "wired" at night and began to have difficulty falling asleep until really late.

The Seroquel really helps me maintain a healthy sleep regimen.

You certainly don't sound "psycho" to me, and I'm sure your doc would be able to tell if your mental situation has changed. Trust the pdoc here.

Do you drink alcohol at all? I love beer but have had to cut way back on it as well as the coffee. I find that alcohol really interferes with my meds.

Seroquel is not like an SSRI in that I had to be on the Lex for a few weeks before I thought it helped. The Seroquel did its thing starting on the first night. It has good mood stabilizing properties and maybe that's what you are experiencing. I think that starts pretty quickly.

Either way, if the meds are helping - don't stress out on what other things they are used for - focus on the fact that you are feeling better - which is the whole idea of seeing the pdoc and taking these meds. It's working!

Hang in there. If your posts start to show that you are "losing it", someone here will chime in :)

All the best!!!
