Meds (HELP!!)

Posted by cpallen79 on August 11, 2004, at 16:44:33

I need Help... some of the meds I think are backfiring on me...I have been taking Luvox, which I have been titrating up on... trazodone off and on, and also starting Trileptal. I think I have started too increase dosages on too many meds at once and now I have been having an increase in anxiety. Though the Trazodone knocks me out for sleep at night, I have a suspicion that it is increasing my anxiety during the day (I've heard this is possible). Also, the Luvox increase that occurred this week seems to be increasing my anxiety... Trileptal I don't think is causing it... could be but unlikely. I'm thinking my serotonin receptors are a bit overstimulated... Does anyone have any idea on why this is happening?! Please help, thanks

Hi:
Most likely, ... Luvox causing anxiety,.... in my guess, although I have never been on this med.

Trileptal which is mood stabilizer, ... a refined form of Tegretol which once I was on briefly, never causing 'anxiety.
Further, Trazodone which I've been on around 100 mg.-150 mg. before the bed also NEVER causes 'anxiety,' rather helps the Anxiety.

Anxiety is a part of 'depressive side' of the Bp, then to be honest and frank with you, it's quite tricky to find really 'good' med. In my case, not only one med. but med. combo., one of which Zyprexa seems doing a good job along with Trazodone 150 mg. and Serzone 150 mg.

In my hunch, Seroquel that is most mild and weak Anti-psycho. med.(rather a potenet AP, Zyprexa) could alleviate the Anxiety you have now. First of all, Bp is pretty complex M.I. to deal with.

This is my personal view/opinion through the experience.

Hi HP... I think I'm taking too many meds that affect my serotonin and it's aggravating my BP... I increased the Luvox on Monday, no surprise that I'm having anxiety until the receptors downregulate themselves... The thing with Trazodone is that every single time I take it, the following day this happens... sure enough once I stop taking it, a day or two later once it's cleared my system, my anxiety levels go down during the day...even though I don't sleep well... I'm baffled. I've read some other posts where people have had this problem, especially if they're on SSRIS /w the Traz... it's rare apparently... I'd say that alone, the Traz couldn't do it, but in combo /w my luvox increase, I was asking for it... Sad Panda, what do you think?

Hi HP, one more thing I forgot to add.. I have adhd so I freak out if my doapmine levels go down... go figure on that. I'm thinking that keeping it simple with my Luvox and trileptal will be ok for awhile. I can handle cat napping here and there until things settle in.

Hi:
I agree about just 'two meds.' to figure the things out. If you'd feel OK, then the Trazodone could cause 'the problem.' However, in Bp, 'a good night sleep' is one of best policies to get well. Otherwise, 'fragmental sleep' may cause 'manic' phrase, 'anger' form of manic, ... called 'dysphoric.'

In regard to ADDH, ... in my knowledge, ADD is also a part of depressive side of the Bp, which I also have. For that reason, I've been on WB sr 200 mg.

Trazodone metabilizes into another drug called m-CPP. It's probably m-CPP giving you problems, it only occurs in small amounts, but some people just hate it as it pretty much does the opposite to what Traz does.

Cheers,
Panda.

Hey Panda, sure enough I stopped taking the trazodone and my anxiety was considerably less today. I started taking trazodone again this week AND upped my luvox... yikes, I know better. I actually slept very well last night w/out Trazodone, then again I'm taking trileptal and that can cause drowsiness. Things will balance out. If can't sleep I might add a dab of remeron in or jsut take ativan occasionally. Thanks Sad Panda, I don't know what we'd do w/out you!
