Xanax and Weight Gain?

Posted by Violet4EVR on August 11, 2004, at 0:17:22

Hey everyone :)

I was just curious if Xanax is known to cause weight gain.... I'm on 75mg of Effexor and have lost weight (fortunately!).

My doc wants to put me on Xanax now......is it known to cause weight gain?

Thanks guys,
Violet

Ive been on xanax for years and have not noticed any weight gain. I unfortunately gain weight from SSRI's...but not xanax.

I am not taking Xanax anymore, but when I was
it did contribute to weight gain, and so does
Rivotril. Other factors have to be considered
too though.

Sorry, "RIVOTRIL" is the trade name
for Klonopin. I gained weight on it
when first put on it and maintained
the weight. This does not mean everyone
will gain weight - as in many things
individual inclination to gain weight
varies.

i started taking klon 6 weeks ago, and I found that it made me lose weight(5 pounds), but now my appetite is back to normal. It was just a temporary side effect; I had to force myself to eat.

Apparently, and depending on the person, benzos can cause you to gain or lose weight.

Funny side note: Did you know that one of the benzo withdrawal symptoms is to feel "unreal?" I wonder what that feels like.
