Prozac and alcohol anyone?????????

Posted by woolav on August 2, 2004, at 7:38:09

Hello, I am on day 11 of prozac after switching from paxil. I went to a party sat. night, drank several martini's and literally didnt get out of bed sunday until 5pm. When I do drink, I drink a decent amount, but usually am fine the next day. But it sure seemed like something was up yesterday. I am guessing its bad to mix prozac with alcohol. Any one have any insight on this one?

thanks
S

You should never mix alcohol and Prozac (or any other anti-depressant). The AD increases the effects of alcohol, and it seems to make you more likely to get sick. I believe this information is in the Prozac package insert and pharmacy info. sheet.

if your taking the prozac for deppresion any alcohol will undermind what your trying to accomplish. its just going to keep you more deppresed than you should be in the log run anyway. if i were you i would just quit using alcohol completely, you dont seem like an alcoholic, so it shouldnt be a big deal. just tell your buds that drinking affects your meds and you need to recover.
