> Hi everyone. I'm new to the group. I have previously taken celexa, then serzone and then paxil. This started several years ago after the birth of my second child (now 6). I have gotten off of each medication mainly because of the sexual side effects (inability to O) and because they made me gain weight. I have been off of everything for over a year and hate to even think about starting an anti-depressant again. My doctor says that Effexor is better and that it will give me more energy. Anyone care to comment?

hello, Freedom Seeker. I've been on Effexor since last October, also taking Wellbutrin. They have been a good combination for me. You say "not depression" in your post header - what are you being treated for?

Hi. I've had a positive experience so far switching from Paxil to Effexor and several folks in this forum provided helpful insight and differing experiences as well.

My Paxil dose was 20mg which I had been on for a few years. I got tired of feeling lazy, no 'O' at ALL and the extra 20 pounds bummed me out. My doc switched me to Effexor 37.5mg 2x daily(for some reason the pharmacy gave me XR to start with and the mail-order RX gave me 'regular'. Will be interesting to see what it's like without extended release.).

Anyway, the first couple days were very rough. I was VERY snippy and high-strung, similar to pre-Paxil. However, that did subside. I can tell you that unlike Paxil, I can feel emotions again and actually cry at appropriate situations instead of being 'numb'. I got a little giddy-up back and the more I try to exercise, the more energy I have (have not yet lost anything... but I have to focus on that) and I actually was able to 'O'... OOOOOOOOOH!! :)

There's a lot of great and helpful folks on this forum who I'm sure will provide you with their experiences to, as everyone is different.

Good luck!

PartlyCloudy & Roobie,
Thanks for your replies. Forgive me if this doesn't post correctly. I am not used to this site.. at any rate, my doctor has prescribed Effexor for chronic fatigue syndrome. However, I have also heard that the underlying cause of chronic fatigue is actually depression. I think it's a catch 22 of which one causes the other. I have been exhausted for well over 2 months. I started taking Effexor 3 days ago and at least I have a little of my energy back. I normally run 2 miles about 3-4 times a week and have not been able to do that in about 4 weeks. I'm actually considering trying it in the morning. So at least it has been positive so far! Thanks for the encouragement. You guys hang in there too!

Maybe this is depression!

Has anyone else ever heard that depression causes chronic fatigue syndrome or vice versa? I am having these really hi and low spells. I started Effexor 4 days ago and have slept about 3 hours each night since. Also, I wake up and find that I have a mild case of acne!! Yikes! What do you do with that? This just seems to be a balancing act. Help!!
