Withdrawl from Klonopin

Posted by priscilla on July 14, 2004, at 2:05:35

Hi, i am new here and i have a question which i hope i can be helped with. I have been taking xanax(0.5 2x a day) for 2 years for my panic disorder. My doctor recently changed them to Klonopin (0.5 2x a day). I took it for 4 days, but i did not like how i was feeling, so i changed back to xanax immediately. Since then, i have been feeling a huge amount of dizziness and have been more nervous than i was before, also a bit confused. I don't know if it's possible to get withdrawl symptoms from klonopin if i only took it 3 days. If anyone can help me out on this, please do. I really appriciate any help right now :)

I think it's unlikely the you would have withdrawal from Klonopin after 3 days of use, but anything is possible. While the same class of meds, Xanax and Klonopin have differences in speed of action and halflife. It could be more from not having the Xanax in your system for several days seeing as the Xanax was what you had been on for 2 years. If you are taking regular Xanax, Xanax XL could be a possiblity for decreasing the number of times to dose per day. Also, some of us anxious folks tend to get our anxiety reved up over changes to our med routine, so maybe that could be a factor? Do you take other meds? I suggest giving it a little time and hopefully things will straighten out and if they don't, call your doc.

Thanks for the advice. I am not taking any other medication other than xanax. I do get a little anxious when i start taking a new medication though. But these symptoms for the past week or so after switching back, have been terrible. I have felt a little loss of reality, anxiety, and alot of dizziness and depression. I am going to have a talk with my doctor tomorrow anyhow. I'm starting to feel a little better today. Just hope it stays this way. Thanks for your concern :)
