Klonopin and Social Anxiety - Starts working soon?

Posted by zuzu80 on June 22, 2004, at 14:19:22

Hello,

I have started taking 2 mg of Klonopin a day (1mg morning and 1mg evening) a week ago. But, I am not sure if it's helping my social anxiety at all.

Should I wait a little more before upping the dose?

I know that for some at this forum 2mg a day make wonders for them, but not sure how long it took them until the benefits became evident.

Your comments and experiences are highly appreciated.

P.S. It looks like that it doesn't affect my ability to drive an automobile safely, so does that mean it's not working?

Thanks,
Christine

Actually 2mg a day is a pretty good dose. I take only 0.5mg of Klonopin twice a day. It started working pretty much right away as I remember.

I did notice some relief on startup but 2 weeks for full effect. Talk with your doc before you up dose.

1-2 mg is usually plenty, but some people require more.

I assume from your comment about driving that you aren't feeling any fatigue/sedation from Klonopin. If you *are* feeling sedated, and this hasn't abated at all, then you are taking too much. Contrary to what some people think, it's definitely *not* supposed to work like alcohol, i.e. it's not supposed to make you lose inhibitions by feeling kind of drunk, spaced out, or tired.

I started out five years ago on 2.5-3.0 mg/day, and it helped quickly -- a lot, and much better than Xanax. But as mentioned by another poster, some may be slower responders. Even though it helped significantly at that dose, I soon discovered it worked much better for me at 1-1.5. I've been at 1 mg/day, all first thing in the morning, for several years now, and its a godsend.

One other note...some people have said that generics they've taken haven't worked as well as the brand. The only generic I've taken is made by Teva, and to me it feels just as strong and consistent as branded Klonopin. I think the generic I've seen the most criticism of is Purepac, which you get at most Walgreens. But that's not to imply that the opinion on Purepac is unanimous.

Oh, another thing...you're not just taking it at night, are you?

Klonopin's been a godsend for me. Hope it "gets there" for you, too.

Rick
