Hi, I have been on or off antidepressants for about five years now (mostly SSRI's). I was recently put on a cholesterol lowering medication to try and get my triglycerides under control.
I was wondering If in particular the antidepressants--Lexapro and Remeron--and the anti-anxiety med Klonopin have any adverse effects on the liver. I know that most meds are metabolized in the liver and I also know that the cholesterol lowering meds. work via on the liver.
Should I have a liver enzymes test done? My doctor's have not ordered one. But it just seems like to me with daily use of medication over a period of years this would have an effect on the liver. I do not want to be causing myself any harm or future organ damage because of these meds.
I am a 28 year old male that has no history of liver problems or liver disease and I do not drink alcohol. Should I be concerned? Anyones comments, ideas, or knowledge on the subject would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

YES THEY CAN, SERZONE IN PARTICULAR WHICH IS WHAT I TAKE, BUT THE CHOLSETEROL LOWERING DRUGS REALLY DO LIKE LIPITOR ETC. GET YOUR LIVER TESTED EVERY 3 MONTHS

Most antidepressants are not hard offenders to the liver, with exceptions of serzone, nardil and a few others. Like was said, have you liver checked every now and again.
