Posted by tampagirl70 on June 17, 2004, at 8:57:06

i've been back on celexa 40mg and wellbutrin XL 300mg for 2 weeks now and i've had definite ups and downs. right now, the depression, anxiety & OCD are all battling with me. sometimes i feel better in the evening, sometimes i don't. i wasn't having problems sleeping, but now i am. will this all go away once the meds start doing their job?

Tampa Girl I can relate. It's like when I came off zanax i took 9 months !! And that was hard. But I prayed and went to tons of aa meetings where I was used to sweating it out. As for you , your meds arent as tough as zanaz so it wont be as bad or last as long. You'll be ok and if you need it go on something !

It is normal to feel worst before feeling better when starting Celexa, or any other SSRI. Hang in there, it will get better.
Good luck!

I was on Celexa for nearly 5 years and decided to come off it by slowly tapering. That was a nightmare in itself but the discontinuation syndrome I suffered with badly and after a couple of months needed to take something to quell the anxiety. I'm disappointed with myself that I couldn't stand some of the symptoms and that I should have stuck it out for longer but I have a family and they need to come first.

Anyway, my doctor put my on a low dose of Prozac to deal with some of the withdrawal and I know exactly what you're saying about the side effects. I went through all sorts of brain changes which made me almost want to stop the Prozac aswell although I knew what the alternative was. I didn't sleep through the night for nearly 7 weeks, I had obsessive thoughts, I suffered with horrendous depression, new anxiety attacks like I had never experienced before, agitation and the feeling of wanting to escape from my skin or my head even. When I did sleep the nightmares were horrible and I ended up obsessing about those and being scared that they would really happen.

I've now been on the Prozac for 8 weeks and still have a few side effects but I think i've balanced out and it should only get better.

Try to remain persistent and remember that its the medication making these things happen to you....I needed to constantly remind myself of this because I thought I was going crazy (another obsession).

Good luck

i was only off the wellbutrin for a month and the celexa for 2 weeks, but i know that i wasn't taking enough celexa for quite a while before i went off of it. does it make a difference in how quickly it works if you've been on it before and restart it?

It could. The wellbutrin tends to wake you up a lot at first. But I found that after a while it was puting me to sleep. Hopefully the meds will get normal again soon. Why did you stop taking them before?

i stopped taking them because i thought i didn't really need them. i consulted my pdoc about going off the wellbutrin, but went off the celexa on my own. BIG MISTAKE!!!! if i ever feel normal again, i definitely won't stop taking them.

Stoping never works for me either. What I'm doing now is cutting down, very slowly. I cut the celexa down to 40 mg from 60. Cut zyprexa down to 6.25 mg from 7.5.

how long did it take for you to feel "normal" again after restarting your meds? my pdoc has told me 3-4 weeks to feel some relief, but hopefully in 6 weeks i should feel much relief. i wake up full of anxiety, even though when i go to sleep i'm fairly calm. i've started taking xanax a couple times a day to combat the anxiety. my 2 favorite times of day are getting home from work and going to sleep. getting out of bed in the morning is a nightmare.

why are you going off your meds?

Untill I got back into the swing of things. About a month, maybe a little less. Just think of it as something you have to do. I don't like the side-effects of these drugs anymore. I'm not stoping all at once like I use to do. Just a decrease so they are more tolerable. I'm hoping eventualy I don't need them.

i'll probably have to take the meds for life, but if it keeps me from going through what i'm dealing with right now, that's fine with me. my problems are depression, ocd and anxiety. when they all gang up on me, its horrendous.
