Is Klonopin a depressive

Hi.

A bipolar group I am on said that Klonopin is a depressive. Does anyone know if this is true? I use it as a mood stabiliser and as something to help me relax and slow down my brain at night so I can sleep. But since I am struggling so much with depression these days I started to wonder.

Unfortunately Xanax XR isn't available in Canada yet as far as I know.

Looking forward to some responses.

Hi Maxime.

Klonopin (clonazepam) can certainly cause someone's depression to get worse. However, it is probably a minority of people who experience this. It made me feel worse several times. I am not sure about the cause and effect, but Klonopin is unique among the benzodiazepines in the way it affects serotonin. I think a worsening of depression due to Klonopin is a possibility worth taking a look at. You might be better off with Ativan (lorazepam).

I did not notice this effect until I had been on Klonopin for a period of time. The depressive symptoms were *fairly* mild for me. Anxiety treatment was great with Klonopin. I think the depressive effects could be dose dependent and maybe lowering the dose would help and still have you getting the good results?
