The dr just put me on depakote and I seem to be gaining weight pretty fast. Anyone else have the same or different experience?

Oh Yes. I gained weight really fast on Depakote. My hair fell out too.

How long should I give it? I was put on Zyprexa and gained 5 lbs. in a week, now the Depakote has me even 8 lbs. higher. *sigh*

I don't know what to recommend except talk to your doctor.
I gained *a lot* of weight on the depakote. If I remember correctly something like 60 lbs in 3 months! I was eating like crazy. I quit the depakote cold turkey which was bad too. I had terrible swelling in my feet for about a week.

I was on Depakote ER for 10 months. I gained 30lbs and much of my hair fell out. On the other hand it really managed my manic symptoms. I switched to Lamictal due to Depakote's side effects and have been doing just as well.
