Remeron + SSRI - Which? What dose? Selegiline?

Posted by BobS, on May 24, 2004, at 19:11:54

I am at roughly 5 weeks on Remeron at 15 mg with reasonalble results, but not perfect. I have a terrible time with SSRIs, agitating, and wonder if I could a add a tiny bit (subclinical dose) to boost the Remeron. I went to Remeron after failing earlier this year to titrate on Zoloft and Lexapro. I know Sad Panda uses Effexor with Remeron, but I want to keep away from Effexor.

BTW, I find Remeron "stimulating", like coffee at 15 mg so I am inclined to stay at that level or at the most go to 22.5. The stimulating effect comes and goes by days or in some cases intra day.

Any suggestions would be most helpful.
Regards,
BobS.

I was also on remeron, 30mgs. When I wasn't getting the desired effect, my doc put me on wellbutrin along with it, but can't remember the dosage. It didn't do much for me, but then I stopped the wellbutrin and added fish oil after reading an article about it boosting AD effects. It really did boost the remeron and I felt great.
Best wishes,
cherylann

Hi Bob,

It sounds like you are very med sensitive. A subclinical dose for me might just be far too much for you. 15mg of Remeron for most people is heavily sedating. Remeron doesn't start stimulating until 30-45mg. Did low doses of Zoloft or Lexapro have any positive effects? I wouldn't try any other besides these, I would retry them at a low dose, especially if you still have some around.

Cheers,
Panda.

Remeron Tx for responses - see DX

Cherylann/Sad Panda,
Thanks for your responses. My DX is "harm avoidant OCD and atypical depression", which means I have horrible anxiety, more so than other symptoms of depression. I do not have the typical OCD issues, but rather constant worry and resultant anxiety.

I was on SSRIs for years and never felt right, but I did feel better. I withdrew from Paxil in 2001 and felt great for about a 1 1/2 years. Then due to a number of life stresses I relapsed and tried to start up on SSRIs again. I became so agitated I had to stop them after couple of weeks. Then I started the Remeron. I go up and down on the Remeron and am looking for something else to help. Perhaps it's an increase in the Remeron or the addition of something.

That's my story. Cheryann, what is you dx and how long have you been on Remeron? Sad Panda, I have read numerous posts from you so I think I know something about your story.
Regards,
BobS.
