The half-life of Klonopin is 12 - 20 hours and it can be detected by a blood test. I suspect how long it remains in your system depends upon how low they want to go on the level in your system at the time of the test.

If you have a medical letter prescribing it's use you should have no problem with whomever is doing the blood test.

Could you explain what you ment by 1/2 life of 12-20 hours? sorta dumb on this subject.....and also could you elaborate on what you ment by 'how low they want to go on the level in your system'

THANKS :)

hello, chemist here....the half-life elimination of clonazepam is far greater than gheld posted, ranging from 19 to 50 hours. what is targeted via use of gc-ms (and, increasingly, tandem gc-tof-ms) is the active metabolite, 7-aminoclonazepam. see Negrusz et al., Anal. Bioanal. Chem. 376:1198-1204 (2003) for evidence of the active metabolite appearing in 10 subjects given a single dose of 3 mg clonazepam. the metabolite was detected in all subjects at 14 days after dosing; 8 of 10 were positive at 21 days; 1 subject was positive at 28 days. the 12-20 hour figure is incorrect. in my opinion, 1 month at minimum is in the safety zone....please let me know if this helps, all the best, chemist

Half-life describes the amount of time it takes for 50% of the drug to be eliminated from your system. For Klonopin, it averages about 30 hours. So, theoretically, half as much will be present after 30 hours, 1/4 as much after 60 hours, 1/8 as much after 120 hours etc. But there's a lot of individual variation.

In my experience, the effects wear off after about 12 hours. This doesn't mean it isn't in my system any more, just that I don't feel it. In any case, if you have a legitimate prescription, then you're fine should you have a drug test etc., as long as you inform them of your prescribed use.

Thank you for your detailed replies-so basicly klonipin stays in your system like pot would if you get tested say one month down the road.

for example: if someone takes a 2mg pill of klonipin once a day for one week (6 days) and then stops-If that person gets a blood test in one month-it will STILL SHOW ??????????? ewwwww!

I'm not sure, because there are other things going on that may affect elimination. Theoretically, it never completely leaves your system, but of course in reality it does. I have no idea how long it takes before it stops showing up in drug tests, but if you were taking it with a legitimate prescription, this shouldn't matter.

I should add a minor correction to my previous post: if the half-life is 30 hours for an individual, then you'd be down to 1/8 the amount after 90 hours, not 120. In other words, (theoretically) the amount halves every 30 hours: 1/2 after 30 hours, 1/4 after 60 hours, 1/8 after 90 hours, 1/16 after 120 hours, etc. So, all things being equal, after a week you'd have about 1/64 left. Of couse, some people are slower metabolizers and will take longer to get rid of it.
