Effexor is turning me into a Psycho no pun intend

Posted by Stryker88 on May 8, 2004, at 3:55:12

this is psycho babble so I guess I can talk about me being a psycho. When I started Effexor 150mg about 1 1/2 yrs ago, I dont think I was really that depressed at all. I wanted at the time to try the drug to see if it could help me, however I have been taking it for a long time now. In reality it has caused alot of problems for me, I get constant daytime fogginess, drowsy, lazy feelings, dont want to do anything, I cannot get the motivation to stop this illicit drug. I have become so used to popping my morning pills after my coffee. Sometimes I feel quite good in the morning, here is what I do in the day

1 wake up drink coffee
2 drink water, eat breakfast
3 pop my Effexor pills 150mg
4 drink Red Bull or Monster Energy drinks
5 drive to work
6 drink soda at break
7 drink coffe at lunch
8 drink coffe after work
9 drink soda at home
10 watch tv eat, yogurt and TV dinner

TELL ME IF YOU THINK THIS IS A PATHETIC DAILY LIFE

well, I have a similar routine:

1. Listen to coffee drip from my preset coffeemaker as two alarms go off.

2. turn off the buzzing one, turn down the radio, eagerly suck down a pot (three cups) of coffee. With coffee and breakfast (if not depressed) or without breakfast (if depressed, when i get depressed i lose interest in everything but coffee) i pop 80 mg strattera, .5 mg klonopin, 15 mg buspirone.

3. go to work, grab a coffee, dark, no sugar, at the diner by the bus stop, unless i am having a relapse of depression, (as i have the past 2 weeks) in which case i take it regular, milk and sugar.

4. finish coffee on bus. grab another coffee and buttered roll at coffee shop near workplace so i have a nearly full cup as i walk in the door. the few times i've skipped this step colleagues look at me strangely, say "where's your coffee?" the fact that i've downed potsful already is of course not apparent to them.

5. at any possible break i announce "i'm getting coffee. anyone else want something?" my colleagues take advantage of my coffee habit, and i return with multiple items: food, soda for others, food for myself (if not depressed) and coffee, or just coffee, if as i am now, depressed.

6. lunch break. currently, due to bad depression, i get coffee and eat a ptotein bar.

7. get coffee on way home so i have energy to eat dinner (if not depressed) or just set my alarms, coffeemaker, take my evening meds (now 50 mg nortriptyline, 15 mg buspirone, .25 mg klonopin) go to this site, and go to sleep.

i am on my third cup of coffeee as i write this, of course.

Dear STRYKER,
I do not think that is a bad daily routine at all. With or without Effexor we stil have a functional daily routine to follow.

However...I too am going off EFFEXOR XR because of the side effedts of weight gain..and more importanly NO MOTIVATION.

I have decided to try and go woth just my alprazolem ( xanax) and exercise and regain my former motivation and drive for accomplishment.

I really believe ..that EFFEXOR too the edge off
of my desire to accomplish.

Doesn't sound bad to me at all! I can't even work right now (serious people/stress issues), am mooching off understanding relatives, dogsitting, swimming, doing grad school part time, and procrastinating by reading lots and lots of medical books, articles, neuropharmacology texts...which seems to irritate my doctors for some puzzling reason...

So I admire your routine. I have no love for Effexor, though, and I think it should have a black box warning and used very rarely. If you go off it, remember, go slow, and use prozac.
