I love my hubbie and do not want to go thru another divorce but I do realize that the bedroom intimacy is very important in a healthy marriage along w/ all the other stuff that comes along w/ marriage of course. I am 37/he is 44 both sec marriages.......

What exactly are you taking for depression? I had pretty bad experiences with all meds except for Wellbutrin as far as libido goes. I felt like anything below the waist was a dead zone. Only since I've been on the wb have I felt more normal.

It also helped me to pamper myself - bubble baths, facials, manicures, etc. I don't know - it just made me feel more feminine, I think.

I can totally relate to you on this one. My doc thinks that ultimately the problem lies with my psych. problems, not *really* the meds. Although they certainly don't help either! I'm on Effexor and the worst problem with that for me is anorgasmia. Even when I do feel slightly sexual I can't get a release!

As things improve for me (hopefully!) I am going to ask to go off the Effexor. I'm not sure it's doing that much for me anyway. I don't know.

I'm really luck. I have a very supportive partner. Even though it creates some tension now and then, she's really awesome.

It's like I've gone from one extreme to another. When I was either manic or hypomanic I was hypersexual. Now? Eh, couldn't care less.

Do you porn flicks? Maybe some visual stimulation could help. I've used that on various occaisions.

May I ask why you don't want a reply from a male? We suffer the same problem & I suspect the answer is the same too.

Cheers,

Loss of sexual desire and the ability to have an orgasm is a well known SE of SSRIs now, but when I started Prozac over 10 years ago, it wsn't common knowledge. I had no idea why my fantastic sexlife just fizzled after I started taking it. I had no idea the two were related.

This has had a major impact on my marriage, including some screaming on my husband's part.

My personal opinion is that you should try another AD. Wellbutrin or Trazodone are known for having much less negative impact on your sex life. You can read more about my experience with trazodone in the link above, entitled "Re: How sedating is Trazadone afatchic 5/7/04"

Another avenue to try is looking at your sex hormones. A report published several years ago, suggested a link between ADs and testosterone deficiency. If you are deficient in testosterone, it will make you depressed and kill your sex drive. If you find it is low, you can get bio-identical hormone replacement to get you back to normal levels. Here's a link to the report if anyone is interested: http://www.priory.com/psych/sexdys.htm

It's still not too much different, getting an erection is just an extra step. A lot of men, myself included, have SSRI induced anorgasmia in the same way that women do. Endless rubbing with near zero stimulation & no chance of an orgasm is just boring to a guy too. If you are having trouble with Libido, Wellbutrin is supposed to be one of the few drugs to add to an SSRI to counteract it. If you are having trouble with anorgasmia, Wellbutrin is also supposed to be helpfull & I have found Remeron to be helpful. Viagra can be helpful to females too, it works by getting more bloodflow to the genital area in both sexes, for females this leads to increased sensitivity in the general area, labia & clitoris increase in size during sexual aurosal, they just don't get as hard. :)

Panda.

I wish I had great words of wisdom for you. I am going through the same thing.

Seeems that there were some good suggestions made here.

I just wonder if I am misinformed about viagra:

I remember hearing that it can induce serotonin syndrome if one is already on an ssri. I could most definitely be incorrect.

But visual aids and wellbutrin seem like good places to start, as does getting your testosterone level checked.

I am considering a go with some well constructed "erotica' literature. I wonder if this might be more your style than pornography or if, perhaps the two in tandem could be useful.

Also, I have noticed that at certain points in my cycle it is better than others. Perhaps this could be the beginning of a dialogue with your husband. Like, "I've found that very close to my period is when I really really don't want to think of sex, but mid-cycle I am more prone to arousal". Just a thought......

Another thought is a vibrator, at least to get some feeling going on ;-)

I sympathize and empathize with how you feel.....I almost feel pressured to be in a constant state of arousal because I am in my 30's and we women are supposed to be in our primes sexually, right?

I do wish you luck....and if you find anything, write back/

Diane

I have had anorgasmia since 1998. Libido ebbs and flows depending on relationships. Masturbation will work, but it takes a very long time. Erotica seems to help.

Currently, I am taking Wellbutrin XL (300 mg) and Zoloft (50 mg), which my pdoc says shouldn't cause this problem. He prescribed Viagara, but it had no effect and I had a heck of a time (not to mention indignation and embarrassment) getting it from the pharmacist, who didn't believe the script was for me (my doctor had to call). While it didn't help me, I have heard that it has helped other women. I don't know whether the other newer drugs have been tried... does anyone know about Levitra or Cialis?
