Effexor xr and alcohol

Posted by husschick on May 1, 2004, at 21:30:37

Hi, I had a question for anyone that has drank alcohol while taking effexor. Are there any bad side effects to it. I started taking effexor xr 75 mg about a month ago, seems to be helping alot with my panic attacks, I have tried 10 other meds prior to this. so if anyone can answer my question that would be great

I absolutely cannot drink on effexor xr. It takes my body 2 days to get over 3 drinks. I black out, too. The worst effect, I believe, is that it's extremely hard on your liver. If you intend to drink to self medicate for anxiety (which is not a good idea anyway), have your doctor keep an eye on your liver function. You'd be better off taking an anti-anxiety med. I take .5mg xanax as needed, and as the effxor became more effective, my need for the xanax has reduced.

Good luck!
