Wellbutrin XL side effects?

Posted by Chipmunk on April 21, 2004, at 20:03:49

I started taking Wellbutrin XL for depression a little over a week ago. This is the first time I've ever taken an AD. My doctor had me start with 150 mg for seven days, and then move up to 300 mg. I am now on day two of the 300 mg. The first couple of days, I felt pretty good. After that, I've pretty much felt nauseated every day. I had dry mouth for a couple days, but that seems to have mostly gone away. However, I still feel horrible physically. The intensity of the nausea decreased some over days four-six, but is now pretty consistent. I don't know exactly how the extended release works, but the effects seem to really kick in around 11:00 and last until early evening. I haven't felt any effects on my mood yet, but I realize it's probably too soon for that. The feeling sick is really wearing me down though. I plan on talking to my doc in the morning, but I don't know if I've given my body enough time to adjust. Is it too soon to expect side effects to have cleared up?

I thought it took from eight to twelve weeks. Give it time.

i like wellbutrin. it is very activating. it took a few weeks for its mood effect to kick in. a lot of the other ADs cause tiredness and weight gain. i would wait it out a couple of weeks and see what happens.

Hi Chipmunk!

I take wellbutrin (300xl) to combact the fatigue I get from some other meds that I am on. Fourtunately, the side effects usually go away after time. It took me about 4-6 wks for them to clear up, but think it's a great AD. Good luck, keep us posted, and virtaully all the AD's have side effects that fade away in time, so you are in good company here! I find wellbrutin a very good combo with my other meds.

Thank you for the responses. I'm pretty discouraged right now. I was very sick last night, to the point that I couldn't keep food down. I'm really worried about it possibly taking several more weeks for me to start feeling better. I'll see what the doctor has to say, but I'm pretty uncomfortable with continuing to take something that has messed my body up so badly. Thanks again for listening.

I am already on Effexor 150mg and I DONT want to increase AD dosage. But I hear so much about Wellbutrin and Effexor combining. Adding Effexor to Wellbutrin, is this just increasing the AD effect or is Wellbutrin different.

Has anyone noticed more severe side effects on wellbutrin sr then wellbutrin xl? I just switched to xl and noticed a lot less dizziness, tremors, etc, then on the sr.
