Effexor XR and fatigue--looking for suggestions

Posted by zefdie on April 18, 2004, at 17:32:24

Hey all, I'm back to check in after a month on Effexor XR 75 mg. I'm feeling much better, though I have some terrible days. I would probably benefit by upping to 150 mg but right now I'm going to stick with 75 and hope that weekly therapy and the CBT books I've been reading (Breaking the Patterns of Depression by Michael Yapko and Self-Esteem by McKay and Fanning...very helpful!) will pull me through. The one Effexor side-effect that's driving me CRAZY is fatigue?

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with this intense, prolonged exhaustion? It doesn't matter when I take the pill, since it's extended release. I'm always passing out! I think the expense of Provigil is prohibitive and I don't want to risk the liver problems that come with its older, cheaper cousin. I know that there are drug interaction indications for Effexor and amphetamines--are any of you on Adderall or Dexedrine? I have a terrible time concentrating, have been diagnoses with ADHD in the past, and think a stimulant might to a lot of good.

Coffee just ain't enough!

It doesn't work that way. Using CBT can be a great help, but it doesn't let you to use less than a therapeutic dosage of the AD. 150mg is usually the beginning of the therapeutic window with Effexor. You owe it to yourself to try 150mg for at least a month.

wellbutrin, strattera -- ask if you can have either one added as an adjunct.

provigil is great if you can get it covered.

Many people here have complained of Strattera Wellbutrin causing tiredness with regular use.
