How Long To Wait Until Increase of Meds?

Posted by Dauphine on April 13, 2004, at 12:56:52

I'm feeling very frustrated right now, mostly just because of what I am going through, i.e. I'm having an extremely rough time in life right now. I have been on 75 mg of Effexor for 30 days, and although I have seen some improvements, I'm feel like my anxiety and depression has greatly increased recently. But ironically, I feel my apathy and loss of motivation has increased at the same time that I feel frantic. How long should you wait at your current dosage before you decided to up the dose? I can't tell if the drug is making me anxious or it's just the same old me.

Hi Dauphine,

Talk to your pdoc and see what he says about an increase. In my non-professional opinion it sounds like you could benefit from taking a little bit more Effexor.

When I started on Lexapro I had to increase twice before my anxiety/depression subsided.

Hi dauphine!

Iv been on Efexor 75mg for 3 weeks now. I do feel a bit less arrrrggh, but still the depression is here. And its so hard going along with people going "so is this new drug working?" and im always like "um..same as last week really", trying to keep all positive!

Im seeing my doc next week (that'll be a month then) and I called him this morning to see if Im gonna be able to increase to 150mg. For some reason (well I am taking the efexor also for mild ocd!!) I seem to get frantic about the possibility of the doctor NOT increasing my dose and me ending up depressed for the rest of my life! Its terrible. Its like I cant get my mind off worrying about what the right dose is for me and all that. At the moment, i am COMPLETELY trying NOT to think about it, not to go on the internet and read about peoples experiences and on the drugs website (oh well it doesnt look as if Iv been too successful with THAT tonight - ahem!!).

Anyway. Id be really interested to see how you get on. Please keep posting!! I too have gotten quite apathetic. I have no motivation at all. I looked at myself today, its april now and the sun is shining beautifully here! (it never does that in uk, hehe). And everyone was like "oh its such a lovely day". And I was like "eek, I turn 20 in less than a month, this is my YOUTH! when I should be out in the sun! and here I am slumped on the sofa, watching some crappy daytime-tv show about marriage break-ups, TOTALLY unable even to get upstairs and get in the shower!". Its horrible isnt it..

take care, and yeh, bring it up with your doctor! a dose increase could be the key!

depends on your case entirely.... how severe the depression is, how many meds you've tried before, how you reacted to them, etc etc ......
