Adderall/Dexedrine users please read

Posted by btnd on April 9, 2004, at 10:49:46

I've a question for Adderall/Dexedrine users - all who use even small amounts for ADD/dysthymia/anti-depressant.

First of all - do you have any heart problems from the usage? (murmurs, tachycardia, fast beat, irregular beat, pain, etc.)

Second of all - how do you deal with appetite suppresion? Are you able to normally eat at least 3 meals/day?

Third of all - how do you deal with "comedown"/"crash"/when the amphetamines stop working in the evening?

Please mention your doses. I appreciate your input.

I haven't had any problems in that area -- my blood pressure hasn't even risen.

I'm rather fond of the appetite suppression as I normally overeat, but it certainly doesn't prevent me from eating when I need to.

I've never experienced an amphetamine crash... sounds weird, I know, but true. Maybe it's because of how long it lasts in my system combined with the Prozac, DXM, and urinary alkalinizers.

Not really, just terrible fatigue and some hypotension and breathing problems when it wears off sometimes. Dex is much better than Adderall is this regard.

Dex is better than the others, in this regard, and sometimes, at normal doses, appetite increases to normal.

>

That's a real drag. I suffer from that. Sometimes its ok, other times it leaves me feeling like a wilted dead head. But it's still better that Adderall in this regard. Mostly numb lifeless feeling, no anxiety etc.

I take between 7.5 and 17 mg a day, depends on the level of stimulation in my daily life. My favored level is 12.5 mg/day. Keeping the dose somwhat lose can help in the long term, for me, insofar as minimizing negative effects.

I took Dexadrine for a few months last year, although I'm now back on ritalin (like it better). My dose was 5mg 2xday.

No, I never noticed these symptoms.
>

I had to be more watchful- I could easily forget to eat because my hunger was more muted. I made sure I had more tasty foods around- I love cooking- and would eat right as soon as I did remember to eat.

I never had a comedown- neither dex nor rit gave me anything more than focus. So, at the end of the day I could tell I was getting less focused, thats it.

I usually wouldn't take it on days where I was either really tired (not enough sleep) or ill: the ritalin focused what I had to work with- if I didn't have much to work with the ritalin isn't useful. I also often wouldn't take it on weekends: if all I'm doing is puttering around or going out exercising the ritalin's focus isn't all that valuable.

I take Dexadrine 40mg/day

> First of all - do you have any heart problems from the usage? (murmurs, tachycardia, fast beat, irregular beat, pain, etc.)

I had some symptoms, like I felt like my heart was beating harder or faster, but I wore a 24 hour heart monitior and the printout showed that everything was normal. I think I was just worried about having the symptoms and noticing my heartbeat more. My BP is also the same as it was before.

> Second of all - how do you deal with appetite suppresion? Are you able to normally eat at least 3 meals/day?

I have no appetite suppression from 40mg/day of Dexadrine. Sometimes I think it increased my appetite.

> Third of all - how do you deal with "comedown"/"crash"/when the amphetamines stop working in the evening?

For me Dexadrine has very little comedown/crash.

Ritalin was horrific and I felt very emotionally and physically sour when it wore off.

Adderall had less wearoff than Ritalin, but it had much worse physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat, dry mouth, sweaty palms, nervousness, etc.

I have taken dexedrine for ADD for the last few months, and the answer to all your questions has been NO!

I did notice some appetite supression at higher doses! Dont realy notice a crash, infact I usually feel better at the end of the day because I've done stuff! Instead of sitting around doing nothing.

And I'd like to add that I can stop and start fairly easily. I can go from 20mg one day, to taking nothing for the next two and be okay with that.

Dex and exercise?

Do any Dex-takers regularly do vigorous excercise? If so, do you do it after taking the Dex? Do you take your next does after the exercise?

I do lots of aerobic and I find that I can feel really wasted afterward, as the Dex is so rapidly metabolized from my body. Very shaky, weak feeling.

Recently I've begun taking my next dose about and hour after exercising (previously, I avoided dosing after exercise, thinking it was bad for cardio beneifts). This seems a better solution, especially if I exercise in the morning, as I am now prone to do.

How do others deal with stims and exercise?

I've been taking adderall so long, i really cant even rerember what the effects felt like when i first started

Adderall for me at low doses makes me a zombie! this is at doses such as 10-15 mg, i hate it! These doses produce the famous "dulling" feeling where you feel no emotion. Produce behavioral suppressing effects, mainly to calm hyper youngsters. This dose is no longer effective for me, because it makes me irrtible and numb because i feel so "lifeless". Slows down your thought process also, so its hard to be creative.

Then at Moderate doses such as 30-40mg, the effects begin to change, the behavioral supression is no longer present. My thought process is back to normal, but enhanced a little, and i feel like myself, not a zombie. Also this is when i get that motivating feeling to do everything. Everything seems filled with enthusiasm such as doing work, i know what you mean. And basically im in a good mood at these doses.

Moderatly High doses such as 50-60mg will greatly increase that motivation feeling, i feel like doing everything, and i feel good about doing it, such as cleaning which usally makes me really in a bad mood. My mood is also raised more at these doeses mainly because more dopamine is in the nerve synapse.

High doses are anything above 60mg. At around 70-100mg these are recreational doses, you are soo motivated,it actually starts to impair you to stay on one thing because you want to do so many things! Everthing is incredibly exiting and fun. These are doses speed freaks go for, and it is dangerous, your heart will suffer. You may even have visit to the hospital.

Well thats basically how adderall effects me, so hope the info is good. Later

Thanks for your response. Because dex does not affect heart beta receptors (like Adderall), I don't think it's really harmful, as long as your body is able to sweat (I can sweat on dex, not on Ritalin, for example).

So it sounds like you don't have any adverse effects on dex. That's great. Over the past 3 years, I've developed some bad fatigue and spatial-navigation problems associated with dex rebound. I'm trying to figure out what to do about the dose etc, as dex is about the only ADD med I can tolerate, and otherwise, it agrees with me rather well. But higher does just seem to exhaust me more.

Do you notice any weight gain on dex?
