here I go again!!!- NARDIL + L-TRYPTOPHAN

Posted by ace on April 3, 2004, at 23:29:27

Has anyone used L-tryptophan as a successful augmentative agent??

at what dose?

There has been two case reports of it causing hypomania when combined with Nardil- this excites me!

I will be using 2 grams, and probably will follow Linkages advice and up my folic acid to 1mg!

Wish me luck Kids!

Ace,... dude you are so funny man... it must be the 'aussie' thing or the Nardil that you are obsessively trying to tweek your meds! As depressed as I am , I read your posts and they make me laugh. (not in a bad way) but in a great way!!!Keep on keepin on pal....btw Its 12pm cst (US) time. what time is it there in Aust.?
also couple other things if you don't mind me asking...
1 how old are you
2 how long on nardil
3. how much weight gain on Nardil
4. were you overweight before Nardil
5 I am just getting so desperate that I am thinking of telling my p-doc- ECT OR MAOI's- again!! I have run the gamut and am sick and tired of this crap!!!!!
I asked the weight thing because I know maois can induce lots of weight and I do have some mild orthostatic hypo-tension. When I was on parnate 12 yrs ago-weight was not a factor and it made me Hypo-manic and I lost weight !! it pooped out -what a drag!!
thanks

I'd like to redirect follow-ups regarding L-tryptophan to Psycho-Babble Alternative. Here's a link:

Nuh man, I've always been this crazy funny dude....even when in major depression i can laugh at myself (its hard but!)

As depressed as I am , I read your posts and they make me laugh. (not in a bad way) but in a great way!!!

So cool to hear mate!!!!! So glad they make you laugh....my stupid behaviour can actually help others!!!!!

Keep on keepin on pal....btw Its 12pm cst (US) time. what time is it there in Aust.?

Don't know!!!! I am in Sydney, NSW...I can find out for you but dude...

> also couple other things if you don't mind me asking...
> 1 how old are you

Mentally- 3 years old!...Physically- 25 years old!

> 2 how long on nardil

1 year and 5 months!

> 3. how much weight gain on Nardil

Quite a bit bro! I have a pot-belly now! Like some old dude who drinks beer and watches TV all day! But I dont drink at all! I'd say I gained 10 kg or so. I am now a chocoholic!!! Zyprexa 2.5 doesn't help the weight prob either! But, all that being said, I am still one sexy man!!!!

> 4. were you overweight before Nardil

No, I was a stringbean! Skinny

> 5 I am just getting so desperate that I am thinking of telling my p-doc- ECT OR MAOI's- again!! I have run the gamut and am sick and tired of this crap!!!!!

Oh, man, please please give Nardil a go. But once you get those euphoric effects, DON'T PLAY WITH THE DOSE!!!!!! Be patient with it too...it took a good 6 weeks to kick in initially. And you may need 90mg. Im always here for you if you have any more qstns...

Snapper, please give Nardil a go...if Parnate helped I am quite certain Nardil will too.

What ever the case keep your head up and feel free to ask me anything!

Cheers to you man,

Ace (Andrew)
Nardil 60
Zyprexa 2.5
L-Tryptophan 2 gram
Folic Acid 1mg

Ace...back to Nardil again, eh? I hope you don't take offense to this, but after going over some of your last posts, It seems that relieving your depression/OCD has taken a back seat to an attempt to achieve the hypomanic state that Nardil caused.

This, to me, seems similar to drug seeking behavior (the euphoria and reward that drug users seek)

Hypomania is statistically more common with Nardil then other antidepressants. Trying to get to a drug induced manic state seems not only irresponsible and dangerous (over medicating) but somehow seems unfair to those who actually suffer from the often debilitating highs and lows of having a bipolar spectrum disorder, and to those who spend years trying to find a medication that works.

Only bad things can come from attempting to get a "high" (for lack of a better word) from combining Nardil with multiple medications/vitamins/herbs, etc.

Hypomania/mania is not a mental state you want to live in, as wonderful as it may seem. I think that if you stick with a medication that works (as nardil seemed to) and stick it out through the possible hypomania, you will find that having a wide variety of emotions is a far more rewarding state of mind
