Lexapro 11 wks - Welcome Opinions

Posted by seatgti on March 31, 2004, at 8:32:19

Hey Fellow Lexapro People

I have been following the board very closely since January (5th to be precise)when my doctor prescribed 10mg of Cipralex(lexapro) for my third bout of anxiety disorder. I was currently on Dothiepin (a TCA) and had been for a couple of years. This is my first post, maybe I should have spoke up sooner. I been taking the lexapro 10mgs for a full 11 weeks and I am disappointed with the results. I seem to be so up and down with my anxiety/depression that I cant tell if they are doing any good! I am waiting for some therapy but it can take some time in the UK to get to see someone. Had the usual side effects for the first 1-2 weeks nausea, diahorra etc but the worst have been the dreams and sleep disturbance. Which I was taking a benzo to counteract. But my doc wont give me anymore so I have gone onto trazodone with the lex. My doc told me to take my lex at night which was worst so another doc said try in the am. Which i do now. My main problem is I have just had the worst week so far servere anxiety attacks with depression and this is 11 wks in. I would welcome opinions on any of the above but inparticular should I up the dose, if so take all at once or stagger? Or should I give up and try something else? I hope you will accept me into your lexapro family like you have so many others.

Look forward to reading your replies

Andy UK

I would definitely up the dose to 20 mg, if it is ok with your doctor. I personally am doing very well on 30 mg Lexapro.

Hi Andy,

I was at 10 mgs for 6 weeks and still had panic attacks. My psychiatrist recommended that I increase my dose to 15 mgs...and increasing has really helped minimize my panic attacks. I strongly recommend upping your dose. The side effects are minimal since your body is already adjusted to the Lexapro.

You WILL get better. Panic attacks are a terrible thing to live with...but rest assured they won't be part of your life much longer.

Thanks for your optimism K. I know you are a big poster on here and have been tempted many times over the past few weeks to up my dose by your experiences. Gonna start with 15mgs tomorrow, would it make any difference taking the extra 5mgs at the same time or later in the day?

Thanks again

Andy

I take all 30 mg at once when I wakeup in the morning.

I take one and one half 20 mg pills. It's much cheaper that way than taking 3 pills of 10 mg each.

Hi Andy,

I would recommend taking it all at the same time. Splitting the dose up during the day can minimize the side effects, but in my experience going from 10 mgs to 15 mgs isn't that bad. It made me a little more tired than usual and I felt a little out of it for approx 2 weeks but other than that it wasn't a big deal.

Keep us posted on your progress. We all want to see your health improve.

K.

I was kinda hoping for a few more responses. Although I do appreciate K and Bill's answers, thanks. Do you think I should post again in the social bit as thats where most of the lexapro people seem to be hanging out now? Upped to 15mgs yesterday, fingers crossed.

Cheers
