CELEXA augmentation ideas

Posted by Golf4 on February 13, 2004, at 6:11:21

I am one among so many of you suffering with anxious depr.since a LOT of years and after checking(the trial&error system)so many AD's and even MS,the only combo having a fairly good effect(on ME) is a high daily dose of Celexa(80mg)+1,5mg Klonopin, but though the anxiety symptoms vanished,I still remained with an almost constant mild depr.,the fluctuations being between a couple of hours,or even a full day of almost perfect feeling while the most of the time I am slightly depressed. My doctor advised me an augmentation with daily 150mg Wellbutrin slow release(Ziban)to increase the SSRI effect, but even after a week(may be a too short time and even a too low dose)there is still no change in the described above
Any suggestions from someone's own similar experience shall be certainly much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Paul

I take celexa and wellbutrin, great meds, especialy celexa-I'm taking 60 now, 80 was too much. Anyways zyprexa is my wonder drug for stomping out anxiety. Those are my 3. Might try zyprexa if you have not.

THANK YOU,
as such, just let me know :
1-which type of Wellbutrin are you taking and at which dose?
2-after how much time have the Wellbutrin kicked in so that you could reduce the Celexa dose?
3-how much Zyprexa are you taking and why aren't you preferring a much "easier" med(for anxiety and Mood Stabilization) like Klonopin?
thanks for you prompt reply (hopefully)again
Paul

1. I take 2-3/100 mg Wellbutrin Sr pills a day at different times, Breakfast, lunch, supper.

2. I increased the celexa to 80 after starting the wellbutrin, I injoyed it for a while, but found it to just feel like too much, and went back down to 60. I take it at night.

3. I take 10 mg zyprexa at night. I take zyprexa because of previous psychotic symptoms which were drug induced, I use to smoke a lot of pot. Now I take it mainly for anxiety. I sugested klonopin to my doctor once, he didn't think it would work.

Zyprexa is an anti-depresant and anti-axiety med, it is very strong. It works on dopamine which is very pleasurable. It's not addictive like klonopin.

I suggest zyprexa because of how well it has worked for me over the last 5+ years.

Isn't Zyprexa an anti-psychotic? Although I know it can be used to augment ADs ... but it is VERY VERY strong and you have to be carefull with the side effects ... some of them can be very serious.

it is nice that you are so prompt and concrete ; therefore I permit myself asking you some further questions:
1-since both Zyprexa and Celexa you are taking in ONE dose(at night),why aren't you taking the XL type Wellbutrin(300mg)at night, too
having to do nothing more through the day long(to keep in mind that you HAVE to take some med(Wellbutrin SR)?
2-presuming that your basic AD has been first Celexa and the Wellbutrin became the augmentation med,I repeat my initial question regarding the time involved until the Wellbutrin has kicked in and in which means(solving Celexa induced sexual SE,improving AD properties etc.?)
3-what's the reason that you have not switched entirely to Wellbutrin ? why must you take quite significant doses from both?
4-which side effects have you faced while starting Zyprexa and how have you solved your anxiety problems BEFORE starting and taking it?
5-is you main DX a BP(1,or 2)or just an endogenously recurrent unipolar Depr.?
I so much hope to see that you remain prompt and efficient further on and for this thanks in advance

Well I take zyprexa for PTSD. I've been taking it for most of the time I have been sick, which is 5 or more years on the zyprexa. Got sick back in 95'. The wellbutrin is to give me energy and it eases weight gain, which I have no problem with, on the zyprexa. I realy like the zyprexa, it makes me feel good, I've tried Abilify and risperdal with zero effect. I debated taking a different kinds of anxiety meds like klonopin or buspar, but my doctor wanted me on an anti-psychotic and I never asked about buspar because I didn't think it would be strong enough. My doctor claims that celexa, abilify all treat anxiety But when I didn't take zyprexa and took one or both of the others I had big problems with anxiety. I started wellbutrin SR befor the XL came out, then I just didn't switch, besides the SR version is cheeper and I can control better how much I take and when I take it: 1-2-3 of the 100 mg SR when I need it. Its an energy boost in the day. I don't switch entierly to wellbutrin because: doc says they both do different things, ones norepeneprin and the other a SSRI. Side effects starting zyprexa: weight gain, tiredness. Solved them by: going on a diet, drinking lots of caffine or taking wellbutrin. Before taking zyprexa anxiety was being treated in the hospital with what ever they were giving me, I didn't ask much because it would change every day, + they gave me a lot of ECT's which just made me forget everything anyways. Other than that I would stay in the house afraid to go outside. So I was just dealing with anxiety. Life changed with the zyprexa, I don't know why it worked so good. I realy don't know if there is a main diagnosis for me: some of my blood relatives are bipolar, I've had many different dx's; I asked my doctor one day he goes "I've given you 11 dx but I can't remember them all. So I just guess what I think my dx is. I started getting sick one year after the accident where I was watching my freinds blow up on an oil tank, I got clinicaly sick when I started using drugs again that year later. So my best guess which my doctor can never make up his mind on, my self dx is that I am: PTSD, anxiety, depression (from alcohol mainly), drug induced psychosis (from pot mainly), posibly bi-polar.
