Hi Ann,

I am on 400 mg of Lamictal. I hadn't mentioned this to anyone (not even my pdoc), but when I first reached this level, I was incredibly irritable and felt very mean-spirited. I avoided some of my friends because I was afraid that I'd say something cruel or hurtful.

I very much wanted Lamictal to work for me, so I didn't complain about it. Fortunately, it went away and now I'm back to my old kind self. In fact, I feel better than ever.

I hope that you can ride this out. I think part of the problem is that you have to increase your dose so slowly - it takes a while to get to a therapeutic level.

What dose are you on now and what dose is your "goal?"

Hang in there,

Girl

Do stick it out. Lamictal has been great stuff for me.

Are you going up in dosage slow enough? The recomended is to increase 25mgs a week at max. Better is 25mgs every two. It can have nasty side effects. I don't want to scare you, but I would hate to see a great drug rejected because it was taken too much too soon.

Do some searches on this sight for Lamictal. I and many others have written a lot of about our experiences with it. Hang in there.

I'm on day 5 of starting Lamictal- I'm on 25mg this week and next. Then 50mg for two weeks- then 100mg. So far the transition has been good and I can feel a difference, not totally, but a little. Definitely stick it out, I think you'll find it's very helpful, just need to go slow.

Lamictal made me feel happy and calm and have experienced no side effects. I have been on lamictal, currently 400mgs, for 5 months. I am also on prozac, remeron and lithium.

Lamictal- Break up your dose

Break up your dose even if it is 25mg and take it every twelve hours, that will lessen headaches and other side effects. Somebody on this sight told me the 17 hour mark was the headache mark, and it turned out to be true for me.

There aren't any terrible side effects. It is a good med. I've had none of the nausea I usually get starting most meds. It does take a while to build up to a therapeutic dose though. I started getting relief around 125mg. I take 200 daily.

Lamictal poop-out

hi, been on 200mg of Lamictal since the 17th Jan.
Although to start with I felt much better, in the past couple of weeks it seems that my depression is coming back. I have given up smoking a week and a half ago which may have contributed or it may be because i am drinking on it- about 7-8 glasses of wine a week. Has anyone else had this experience and do they know why it could be happening? I also take Melatonin or Nitrazepam(Mogadon) several times a week due to sleep interruption probs. Could those be why?
Am on 600mg Sulpiride and 800mg Tegretol Retard.

thanks a million for any help or feedback!

Hi, Ive been taking lamictal for around 4 wks. Im still under 100mg. But the reason I started taking it was because I tried to quit smoking in december (while i was taking effexor and xanax) and i fell into a major depressive episode. I believe it was the lack of nicotine or something. I started back smoking and ended up at my pdoc and then she put me on the lamitcal. I am feeling a little better. But it could be the cigarettes..

Ann
