I have a job interview and they do a 10-panel drug screen which includes testing for Tricyclic Antidepressants. I am on Lexapro and Risperdal for anxiety/panic. Are these Tricyclic Antidepressants? Thanks.

I don't know waht lexapro is but rispiradol is not an antidepressant, so that one should be fine. I can't believe that is allowed...why test for tricyclics?

lexapro is an SSRI, not a tricyclic. on the website it mentions caution with coadministration of a tricyclic and lexapro, so i would say you are fine.

Tricyclics are among the "older" antidepressants and aren't prescribed much any more. Lexapro is an SSRI and Risperdal is an atypical antipsychotic.
Why would they screen for tricyclics? As far as I know, they have no abuse issues and aren't used much now because (although often very effective for depression), many have annoying side effects and some can cause heart problems etc.
Of course, the newer meds have their own issues, but in any case, whose business is it if you use antidepressants etc. legitimately? Surely that wouldn't exclude you from a job (although in today's America, anything is possible).

I know, I think it is stupid and an invasion of privacy to screen for antidepressants. BUT.. this job is in the Security industry so I guess they don't want a depressed person doing the job. Thanks for the responses :)

Some of the Tricyclics like Doxepin & the old favourite Amitriptyline are extremely sedating & dulling. This might be the reason.
