Lexapro 3rd week

Posted by Nemo2 on February 1, 2004, at 18:11:02

I'm a 54 year old male who has been trying to solve the cause of continuously worsening digestive problems for about 5 years. I've done tests with Gastro-enterologist and Internist and over the last 5 months both MD's have independently suggested that I might be suffering from depression. We have all agreed for 3 years or so that stress is a major factor. I have a busy career and good marriage in most ways. I have a strong history of male suicide on my Mom's side and finally started a course of Lexapro 3 weeks ago. Minor side effects include headache and nausea. Taking 10mg at night daily. Digestive symptoms seem to be better and I'm patient with that. Amazing difference in my moods, though. No more ideation of suicide, thank God. Hope is out there for the first time in a year or so. I'm thinking that maybe my life's goals and dreams are not lost after all. I sleep 5 or 6 hours instead of 7 now and feel fine. I seem to be a little bit slower to learn new information, but the trade off is that I'm no where near as anxious in general through the day. What a difference !! Wish me luck. I also have an appointment with a Psychologist that I've seen before on family and parenting issues. The depression diagnosis will be new to her, too. I'm interested in what her take is.

I've had sex only twice with my wife since I started taking Lexapro on January 9th. The last two years has seen our frequency and passion reduced from about 3 times a week to 3 times a month. No changes or side effects that I noticed in my ability to have orgasm. My side effects have been minor nausea during first 10 days and some slight headaches. Also an amplification of hand tremors that have always been with me. I am not concerned about this and it's still fairly minor. I am most concerned about a "foggy" brain off and on. When I get busy doing something or talking in a conversation or presentation my mind clears well and I can function fine. Getting my mouth started at the beginning of a conversation is a little slower. I think it's related to the "step down" in my "intensity level" overall. Less anxious, less worried, less sharp cognitively to some degree. I'm paying close attention to this. This stuff can't be perfect. I'll take the results so far in a NY minute. Thanks for asking.
