Klonopin and dosage

Posted by scottc1344 on January 24, 2004, at 19:26:27

Has anyone been prescribed 4mg per day or higher for Klonopin My Dr has raised the dosage to this level for extreme anxiety. The most I have ever seen prescribed on this board is 2mg. can anyone explain the side effects or alleviation of symptoms at this higher dosage.

Yes, I am taking 4mg-5mg daily for four years. I take it in divide dosages spread thoughout the day to lessen the side effects. My side effects are at times forgetfulness, lessen cognitive skills, poor concentration, etc. It also seemed to bring on low level depression, but not major depression. Basically, I do not learn new things as fast at work or school, and it mentally slows me down. But I can still learn stuff it just takes me longer. In the begining when I was at that dosage it made me very sleepy, but that effect wore off over time. On the the hand it is extremely effective for my Panic Disorder, and Social phobia. That's why I recently started Nardil, so that I can reduce or even elimnate my Klonopin. I do have to add that people have taken this dosage (or higher), for longer period of time than me, and do not suffer from the side effects that I have experienced. Hope this helps.

I was originally prescribed 4.0 mg to counter very bad insomnia that was actually a side effect of depression. At the beginning, I felt drowsy in the mornings but that effect wore off over time. When my depression went into remission, I began a long, drawn-out tapering off of the Klonopin. Am just about done with it now (hopefully!)

Yes, I take 4 mg of Klonopin. I take it all at night though because of the long half-life. It will of course make you drowsy but you will get used to it.

Just as a side note, for people who take it for epilepsy the max dosage is 20mg a day!

Need Help!! Klonopin Withdrawl-Intense Dizziness!!

I need help. All suggestions welcome.
I am tappering off Klonopin. Started at 2mg/day in Sept and am down to .75mg/day in Jan. I go down .25mg/month. I washed out three times before because I went down to fast. Started klonopin in Dec 2000 at 3mg. Gradually worked down to the 2mg. Experiencing many withdrawl symptons, but this chronic unrelenting dizziness and light-headedness is a real pain.
I know I may be experiencing dormant anxiety returning, and my brain is also trying to readjust. I work out x3/week, take suppliments and try to relax.
I will go down to .5mg in Feb. I know some symptoms I must just deal with. The dizziness is such a drag though. I really am determined to get off this nasty medication.
Need help. Open ears.
Thanks, Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

I went through klonopin withdrawal a couple of years ago, so I know your pain.

Is there a way you can taper off even more gradually? Does your pdoc know that you're suffering from the dizziness?

Experience has taught me to taper as gradually as possible. I stopped abruptly and went through 3 months of suffering.

Best of luck,

Girl
