Hello, I am newly dx w/ bp2 and my pdoc has me on effexor xr, xanax and now just added lamitcal. Has anyone else taken these in combo and had success? I feel like a sponge in need of water (any info will be appreciated).

Donna, well my pdoc wants to keep me on effexor and xanax, but add lamitcal. Im going to give it 5 weeks and see if that helps. She thinks I prob. have BP2.....At least now I know what I have and Im trying to be optimistic about getting better....POSITIVE thinking right??

Hi Ann. I have never been on that combo but I have been on those meds.
Anyhow, I just wanted to say that for BP2 that is a good combo. Effexor isn't suppose to cause hypo-mania like the SSRI's. Lamictal is a mood stabiliser and also an anti-depressant. The xanax will help as well.
I hope this combo works for you. Give the lamictal some time though and take it slow because of the whole rash thing.

Thanks for the encouragement. I seem to be coming out of the depression slowly. Ive been on lamitical? for a week now. I hope this works!!!!Ann
