Hi you,

I still come visiting this board occasionally and i hear your pain.

Of course it is not your fault, but i sincerely think it is a non sense that you're continuing to suffer like that.

Don't take it personally, but we hear you when you continue to tell us about killing someone. It is not a rational thought. I think it would be a great idea to call your pdoc asap, right now!

Now my little grain of salt on your meds. It is obvious (to me at least) that Remeron is not the right med for you. Your mini hysterias, disillusions, anxiety and homicidal tendencies confirm that. Don't you think so?

Being said, that sounds to me like a deep bipolar depression. You might benefit greatly from a mood stabilizer (or even an atypical antipsychotic) with or without another antidepressant. You mentioned that you can't stand other antidepressants. That is another signature (anger, anxiety, irritability...) of the bipolar II disorder. Anyway all i want to say is that with a mood stablizer you would be able to tolerate an AD or another MS like Lamictal.

Wishing you all the best!

I do not think you have been kept up to date on my situation, not that i can not stand ssri's it is my body rejecting them i.e heart races like mad, and i get to manic!!

The way i said by feeling like killing someone wasnt to mean i wouldve killed someone it is a way of saying "i was so moody that if someone crossed me i wouldve kicked a***"

I do get my dayd, today i been smiling all day, last week i was on a downer, panicky, depressed, and then moody

I can not give up remeron as i have no other come back, i am yet still awaiting to see a professional, my doctor can not do nothing for me as he keeps saying, he doesnt want to try me on no meds as he dont have any experience with mental health so basiclly he is protecting himself, the other docs in the sergery wont see me for mental health as i have MY doctor and they agree with him, for me to hang in there and wait to see a proffesional!!

I feel the same way. The biggest impact Remeron had on me was it's alleviation of somatic issues (digestive). It quickly set things straight. Lately, however, those problems have been coming back, and it's only been 4 months. Maybe an increase from 30 to 45||60mg would help me. I'm supposed to me my pdoc in a few weeks, so we'll see.

I should be starting Remeron this week. I actually look forward to the weight gain and increased appetite... plus hopefully it helps my stomach problems a little bit. I lost weight & had no appetite on Ssri's, they also made my stomach nauseous. Do any of you know the half-life of Remeron? I wanted to take it at night to help me sleep also and was wondering if the effects would last throughout the day. Thanks!

I've been taking 15mgs for about three and a half weeks. Causes some drowsiness for a few hours (helps with sleep), some minor weight gain/appetite increase (a good thing), and otherwise nothing else. I think the drug is harmless and perfectly safe.

I may get off it, because it does nothing to decrease the amount of inhibition I experience around people.

You aint taking it for long to even see the results and at 15mg that is more of a sedating affect,., the more you take the more norphadine (sp)is released// :-)

I've been on Remeron for about 4 months. I still have a heck of a time getting out of bed in the morning.I've been exercising for about a year or so sense my heart attack. walking about 3 miles a day,3-4 days a week and some light weight lifting.Sence taking Remeron i'll usualy so tired when i go to the gym it is a struggle to workout and it's not getting any better.I eat like a horse but have only put only 2-4 lbs. My pdoc is adding Wellbutrin XL 150 mg to give me more motavation. I'm not really pleased with Remeron although it's good for sleep and handles my anixity. Over all I just don't like how it makes me feel. Will try adding Wellbutrin and see.

REMERON and Rash

Has anyone developed a rash while on Remeron? I've been on it for a month with dosages ranging from 15mg to 60mg. The rash began a few days after I first began Remeron, but I can't say for sure just what exactly caused it. It began on my neck, and now covers both my neck and face. It looks like the measles....red little pimples all over the place, and my skin feels very scaly.

Will this "rash" disappear over time, or am I allergic to the Remeron?? I really like the med and would hate to give it up, but I'm extremely self-conscious now. What exactly in the chemical make-up of Remeron could be causing this?

Thanks for any assistance.

Hiya hunny, you been on it for a mnth? i really dont know why u have a rash, plse go to the doctor and explain to him/her about it, it could well be the remeron, who knows? since i started it i have noticed dry scaly skin, and rash on my stomach and breasts, but i aint worrying about it, this is the only med i have been able to tolerate.. but plse go get checked out.. if there was anything serious you wouldve gotton worse over the mnth you been on it for.. i think my rash is due to my itching on my stomach and breats maybe to due stress.. i been on it for 8/9 mnths so i doubt it is doing any harm to me.. but plse go get checked.. let us know, i am curious.
Take care

I'd like to move on to the next med myself. It's been about a year since it was started, and there have been no significant improvements besides the sedating effect at bed-time. It takes, on average, about six or seven hours for me to 'wake up'. I dunno about you guys, but it does nothing for anxiety either. It almost seems that it makes the anxiety worse. Paxil also did the.

BTY.....I started on 15mg, and now up to 45...The lower the dosage, the more the nervousness increases.

Half life is about 30 hours. I usually take mine an hour or so before bed, and it puts me down pretty well. I'm no more sleepy in the morning than without Remeron, so it's a good schedule for me.

Hi Donna,

Interesting that we both have a scaly "rash". I've been looking everywhere for information relating to Remeron and rash/acne/dermatitis/hives....and I can't find anything. I would think, because of the anti-histamine effects of Remeron, that hives/rash wouldn't even be a symptom.

I was up to 60mg, but I am working my way back down to see if the "rash" clears up. My face is a little puffy, too. The area under my eyes is puffed up enough that I can see it.

Last night I took 45mg, but I would prefer not to drop below that amount. When I first went from 30mg to 45mg, I felt soooo much better. I know it must be the norepinephrine effect, so I don't want to lose out on that by dropping back down to 30mg.

The only other thing I can think of is that the Remeron is interacting negatively with the Celexa I take in the morning. I was taking 40mg Celexa in the morning and another 40mg of Celexa at supper. Now I'm down to 20mg in the morning and 20mg at supper. But the "rash" is still here. Ugh!

I really, really, really don't want to give up the Remeron. I think Effexor is somewhat like Remeron, but it has a nasty withdrawal syndrome.

Have you tried moisturizers on your tummy and breasts? You should be particularly careful with scratching your breasts in case of infection. I had a nasty skin rash after I gave birth the first time, and the doctor was concerned that it didn't affect my breasts.

Hope you are feeling better!

Sandy

I dont use no creams cus i cant be bothered.. lol.. i want to raise my dose of remeron, but am worried ... i feel the 30mg i been on for 8/9 mnths is pooping out cus my depression is bad andmy anxiety is getting bad again, but doctor doesnt want me to raise, try anything else till i seen a phsyciatrist which i have to wait.. but i am seriously thinking about just raising to 45mg myself tonight, we will see.. i dunno i am kind of scared.. celexa uchy vee... i ended up in hospital on that my hrt beet was 250+ per min on that stuff uchy and i was so bad... it was horrible.. plse be carefull trying to come of it.. i am only on rem due to ssri's raising my hrt rate and bp and trylics having the exact opposite on me...

I am also suffering with polycystic ovarys so that may be contributing to my rash on my breats, so itchy i am worse aroand that time of mnth when i do get a period.. i aint supposed to be on remeron as i am overweight anyways and been diagnosed with diabeties 2, dont have to take no drugs for it just cut out sugar.. but hey i dont care i want to get mentally better before i can love myself enough to take care ofmy appearance..

Take care

Hi Donna,

I had the same problem as you with anti-depressants. The ones affecting seratonin made my blood pressure skyrocket, and the ones affecting dopamine made my heart rate take off like a horse! Lol! I never could get to a therapeutic level on any med, whether anti-depressant nor anti-psychotic.

I found the perfect solution! I now take Inderal LA 80mg in the morning, and another dose at bedtime. It is a beta blocker, and it prevents the adrenaline from flooding my heart. Both my blood pressure and my heart rate stay in normal levels now. Plus, it has the added benefit of helping with some of the PHYSICAL problems of social anxiety....racing heart, sweaty hands, dry mouth, blushing, stammering.....it just doesn't help with the PSYCHOLOGICAL problem of fear.

You may want to ask your doctor for Inderal LA.

Hugs,
Sandy

In reply to Re: REMERON, posted by crazychickuk on January 14, 2004, at 8:54:21

I increased my dosage of Remeron pretty quickly. I started at 15mg, and stayed on that dose for 4 days. Then I went to 30mg, and stayed on it for 11 days. Then I went to 45mg for 4 days. And then I went to 60mg. I stayed at 60mg until up to a couple days ago, when I dropped back down to 45mg to try and figure out about this darn rash.

I never experienced the extreme drowsiness that most people talk about. The Remeron helps me sleep a little, but I still wake up all night long...just not as many times.

I take it sometime in the evening. When I increased the dose from 30mg to 45mg, I woke up the next day feeling GOOD. I actually felt fine, and I had an interest in my life. I felt more awake and just better.

As for the Inderal, I would prefer to take the long-acting version as part of my daily meds. The long-acting has a half-life of 12 hours, so I take it basically every 12 hours. It keeps the level of beta blocker at a steady state in my blood, rather than jumping up and down if I use it "as needed".

Take care!

Sandy

I am still a little scared of raising my dose from 30mg to 45 mg.. as the doc told me not too till i see phsyciatrist.. but hell with it... what is the worse than can happen? i freak over the littlest things.. sandy you the same as me then.. i dont get knocked out like many others do with remeron, i can still wake up in the middle of the night and i can still cat nap too.. i do feel occasionally tired the following day which i always do anyways.. and i notice that i feel alve towards the evening about 10ish... then when i take my rem at 10 30-11 i dont go to bed till 1-2-3 am.. as i love the computer and my tele.. if i raise my dosage will i be more alive in the day? i am a little worried about it raising my bp or hrt rate due to the norph affect... i dont like to be to high as thats when my anxiety is at its worse.. thanx for any imput from anyone..

I went to see my pharmacist today and asked her about my rash. Apparently I am experiencing a RARE side effect. Oh, how wonderful for me! Lol! I have "exfoliative dermatitis" as well as facial edema. Neither one is dangerous, but it just all depends on how much I want to put up with. *sigh* It may lessen over time.

I think I'm going to stay at 45mg for a little while longer and see if my body will adjust somehow. At least it's winter here, and I can hide my neck with turtlenecks and scarves!!

I had a similar experience to Sandy; I raised the dose to 45mg and the next morning I actually felt good, the depression was pretty much gone. I couldn't believe it. I kept expecting it to come back but it never did. That was 4 years ago now.

If you do raise the dose, I really hope it works as well for you!
