Posted by bravis on January 9, 2004, at 7:52:19

i just stopped taking an anti-depressant. i was only on 5mg(half a pill) per day. so i just stopped taking it. now i am experiencing dizziness, fatigue, some nausea. what can i do? i've already been to my doctor, who wasn't much help! Will this go away on it's own, or do i have to go back to the doctor??

what ad was it? how long was u on it for? go bk to doc and ask for a benzo and take it as needed to help calm you down from the side affects of withdrawl... these affects shouldnt last longer than 2 weeks surely..

what antidepressant were you taking ? anyhow withdrawal syndrome usually doesn't last long and as crazy chichuck pointed out benzos can help in the meantime (but don't exaggerate with them or you will have a further problem to address once the syndrome ceases). I found SAM-E very useful to withdraw from Paxil ... it's a 'natural' antidepressant and it's not supposed to have any side-effects. Best wishes

You're welcome. The syntoms will go away anyhow but if you can't bear them you may consider also to discontinue the med gradually. This means for ex. that if you were used to take 5mg of Lexapro you can take 2,5 mg for a week and then quit it. Anyway in a couple of weeks you should be a brand new person ;-)

thanks. actually i just remebered that my doc did prescribe me something for the dizziness. i was just reluctant to take it at first because originally we did not know what was causing this dizziness. He said it probably was not the meds, because of the low dosage. so then i went to the eye doc, and was fine there. so this morning got ont the web and somehow came across the symptoms of suddenly quitting A.D.'s. so now i feel o.k. to take the meds he prescribed.

It will go away. I had the zingies and flashes really bad for 2 -4 qweeks but I didn't care, I just didn't let it bother me. For the nausea take and anti nausea like regulin, it;'sgood for quitting dope.
