The Lex A Snorezzzzzzz....

Posted by Jayslace on January 7, 2004, at 19:39:36

Hi to all. Sorry I haven't been back on here. This is my 6th day of the increase from 10mg to 20mg. Somebody please wake me up! And where is the motivation? I am managing to get the kids to school, supper fixed, dishes done, laundry also. But the rest of the house?
Also, I have a volunteer job where I just have to go sit with a 15 yr old teenager and make sure he does his homeschooling on his computer. Everyday day but Tuesday and the weekend from 9am till 11am. (He's a smart kid, just got in trouble at school. Me? My brain won't let me even try to understand the algebra LOL, so all I have to do is make sure he does his work. )
But today, I was so tired, I couldn't wait to get home. I crawled right into bed, and was out like a light. Slept for 3 hours. I see my psychologist tomorrow, and my med doc next week.
I know this will all wear off, but the 10mg never made me this tired or less motivated.
I've been reading all the posts though, and they sure are very relaxing and make me think alot.
Good luck to you all!!

I'm in my third week on 10MG of Lex and the first two were Sleep City. It's tapered off a lot since then but I couldn't imagine taking 20MG. I'm confident that, like the sweating spells, my sleepiness is now under control.

Most of the time. It still strikes occasionally, and what works for me nearly every time is a good ol' fashioned Stay Awake pill. You know, those caffeine pills students and cab drivers use.

One Stay Awake gives me just enough stimulation to overcome the temporary somnolence of Lex. (I have used amphetamines in the past and consider them overkill for Lex-somnolence, plus they bring a host of problems of their own.)

Good morning. I've thought about those good ole pills. LOL However , I've stuck with my favorite, Coca Cola. Now , last night, I had an awful time sleeping. My husband said I tossed and turned. And I did wake up often, about every 2 hours. Also, my mind started the 'thinking'that it does. Worrying about every little thing. Grocery shopping, cleaning the house, calling my mom for her birthday, getting the kids to school on time, what to cook for supper, etc. Then it started going back to my brain surgery, how I miss being a nurse, then wandered back to why can't I sleep.
My doc increased my Lex because of the anxiety I have. Boy, I hope it's going to work.
For today I have to go to my psychologist at 10am. My volunteer job from 11a to 1p. Then do some grocery shopping. Laundry needs finished. By then the kids will be home ,(8 and 11) and homework to be checked. Supper started. Hubby home at 5:30p.
Actually, I just don't have time to be sleepy or time for anxiety. LOL But something that is scary is, on a bad day, I have cancel all of this, because then I can't drive. My concentration and comprehsion goes right down the drain. And gets worse with the sleepiness.
I love this board!! I get to tell how I feel and not have someone say I'm rambling or have someone think I want them to feel sorry for me.
I just want someone to see what is really happening inside my head.
You all are so terrific!!
And thank you Dr. Bob!!!!

For your middle-of-the-night insomnia you might want to try Lorazepam 1MG. It's a very mild Valium-type sedative that, for me, stops the fidgeting and rapid thinking and lets me get back to sleep. I can fall asleep without and take one as soon as I wake up (around 2:00 a.m.) with that sensation of, "God, I'm never going to get back to sleep." A half-hour later I'm out for the night and have no hangover in the morning.

Thanks for the idea. I have Ambien that I can take and Xanax if it gets too bad, but my doc says he prefers me not to use the xanax at all. YET, before he increased the Lex he was going to just add Klonipin along with the Ambien. In other words, he was going to have be alternate Klonipin and Ambien every other night. My main complaint to begin with was I just wasn't getting enough sleep. He says it was due to too much anxiety and stress. But, I told him I didn't want anymore medicine than I have to take and Klonipin was not my choice of drug. That's when he increased the Lex.
Now for some good (and sorta bad)news. It's 3:30pm and I'm awake!!! Yes, a few yawns, but nothing that makes me want to go to bed or even lay down. However, I am all wrapped up in my chair, and frozen and achy. Why? Because after coming out of my volunteer job, it was snowing.. And the darn ice on the road was covered up. I slipped on it, my pop in my hand went one way, my purse went another, and down I went. Right on my bottom with my left leg( sore from a DVT having been in it back when I had the brain tumors and pulmonary embolism 2001)bent at the knee and under me. Also , I went backward hitting the back of my head, but fortunately not hard enough to cause me any damage.
I was able to get up,but a little dizzy. Got to my car. Sat for a few minutes, called my hubby on the cell phone and he talked with me on the way home. I was only less than half mile, but I wanted to make sure I was ok.
Needless to say, the groceries and laundry? Not done!! Not yet anyway .LOL
Oh well, I didn't have all my coupons cut out.
Maybe tonight I will sleep better. Accentuate the positive, right?
Hope everyone else is safe out there!!

You could try Prozac instead of the Lexapro. It has a slightly more stimulating affect and is less sedating, better for low motivation.

As I've read here, we're all different. Some people are jazzed up by Lexapro. I get sleepy and feel funny even after 6 months. I switched from celexa at the recommendation of my doc. I now take 20 mg lexapro at night, just as I did with celexa. I'm more likely to take it consistently that way too.

During the day I'm on wellburtrin for ADD, but feel like that pooped out.

Good luck.

Thank you Bill for the encouragement. Outside of falling on the ice yesterday, it was my first day staying awake. Only a few yawns. And I slept good last night too. I have to take things a day at a time, and give credit where credit is due. So, maybe this 20mg Lex will be the one. LOL Outside of being sore from my tumble in the snow and ice, I'm ready to face the day!!!
Have a good one!
