Hello all. I know that Nardil can lower a person's blood pressure. I was wondering if Parnate will do the same thing?

Hello,It might. I had secondary borderline hypertension as a result of a severe anxiety disorder. Parnate controled the anxiety and my BP went back to normal. (140's over 90 down to 120s over 70-something--pretty dramatic).

One of the most common side effects of Parnate is called orthostatic hypotension. That refers to blood pressure that is very LOW when the person gets up after lying down or sitting for a while. It varies from person to person, but if my side-effect is indicative of most, it will disappear after a couple of weeks. It's not uncommon for blood pressure during the first couple of weeks to have dramatic highs and lows, in which it could go as low as 90/58. My pdoc has always reassured me that this is no problem.
I've taken this drug for nearly 20 years and always experienced this same phenomenon when re-starting it. You can try increasing your salt intake and don't let anyone hassle you about high blood pressure. Just tell them you're taking the salt for LOW blood pressure!

If you are concerned about this, it might be a good idea to have it checked at some point. Otherwise, low blood pressure is the expected side effect. I used to drink Gatorade and coffee to keep my blood pressure up, particularly in the late afternoon.
