Hi.

Moclobemide can be a very disappointing drug. Of course, there are success stories. Moclobemide has a tendency to "poop-out" after only a few weeks. It very often produces an improvement during the first week at low dosages. Thereafter, it takes higher and higher dosages to recapture the antidepressant response. It is a perfectly reasonably choice of drugs, but I think it is important to keep in mind that some people need as much as 900mg to obtain a sustained response. One thing nice about moclobemide is that it usually produces few side-effects.

Good luck.

How are you going these days Scott? Did you have experience with Moclobemide?

I agree. I've seen this quit a bit. My doctor has noticed this too.

Hmmm...but does it even sustain at THAT dose?

I have taken moclobemide in the past, before my bipolar dx. It is a solid rocket booster with almost no side effects. It is an awesome drug. However it might not be recommended for the anxious ones (gad, ocd, panic, etc.) due to its activating profile. Doses of 600 mg to 900 mg are often needed.

I took 150mg in the morning and 150mg in the evening. I had absolutely no side-effects from this drug and when I quit absolutely no withdrawl symptoms. It gave me alot of energy, which I miss, and took away alot of my anxiety, but it didn't help with my depressives states during PMS, in fact I think it may have made it worse.

I have just seen my pdoc and he said in order for Manerix to work on depression they find they have to use much higher doses than what I was on.

I am now going to try Effexor, wish me luck.

Hi Ace.

I'm doing pretty crappy, but thanks for asking. I started taking Gabitril about a week ago, and I think it is making me feel significantly worse. My doctor wants to focus on postsynaptic downstream events, and I'm not sure exactly what he has planned. I guess his choice of Gabitril was meant to address this. I guess you don't know until you try, but my Thanksgiving was ruined as the depression was too crushing and I just did not want to leave the house. It is demoralizing to have to disappoint other people all the time.

Yes, I have tried moclobemide. It was the absolutely the worst drug I have ever taken. It exacerbated my depression to a degree that I was left curled up on the couch wimpering. It was truly a painful experience. I found some research that suggests to me that moclobemide has the potential to deplete dopamine stores. Obviously, not everyone reacts to moclobemide the same way.

Good luck with amisulpride.

Roche actually tried to get moclobemide approved in the US to treat social phobia. However, they couldn't prove efficacy, and abandoned the project in the mid 1990s. My guess is that it probably helped some people.

I reacted as you did, SLS; for me this drug was like poison. It did nothing to alleviate my depression and anxiety, and at 600 mg., my depression intensified so badly that I just had to quit this drug and do a phaseout. I was virtually immobilized with depression by the time I was finished with it.
