Mirtazapine withdrawal

Posted by Darryl Sanford on November 14, 2003, at 9:47:48

I have been taking Mirtazapine for about 7 months. I recently started taking a reduced dose 7.5 mg (half of the 15 mg tablets I had been taking). Has anyone experienced any withdrawal symptoms doing this? My only adverse effect with Mirtazapine overall is that its seems to cause excessive and strange dreams, which I find distrubing. The depressive symptoms that originally bothered me (mostly unexplained pains and sensations) have been gone for some time.

Thanks, Darryl

Hi,

yes i have. But i believe 7.5mg is a rather low dose and after awhile you would be able to quit mirtazapine. I don't find those strange dreams so disturbing, i think it's fun when you wake up and starting remember all the crazy and absurd things, but that's me. However, if this is your only withdrawal symptom then i think you are doing fine with your reducal rate.

guy in Syracuse? huh? Anyways... I have been taking Remeron for a couple of years BUT... at a very very very low dose. I have 15mg and 30mg Sol Tabs that dissolve in your mouth. I break off the tiniest little piece (maybe 1mg) and it puts me right to sleep. So I doubt I would have any withdrawals from this GREATTT medication. Tensor, I agree with you. I love waking up and remembering all the crazy and OUT of the world dreams I had. I mean.. . I could write a book about the dreams I have had. Some which have amazed me so much that I have to call someone and tell them about my dream. LOL.

Well when I stopped taking Remeron for a little while, it was just a little harder to fall asleep at night but I lost alot of weight when I stopped. But when I went back on it... I put all the weight back on :(

You shouldn't have a problem with withdrawal if you decrease the dose slowly over a few weeks. At least, I didn't have any problems.

Good luck.

I have been on Remeron for four days, at 15 mg. Maybe I am different, but I feel like I have more energy. I can't sleep all that well. From what I have heard this med. is suppose to make you sleepy and hungry. Seems to have the opposite effect for me. I guess it is probably to soon to tell. Anyone else feel like this when starting this med?

Thanks for the response. I have tried so many anti-depressants. Most of the SSRI's made me really wired, dizzy, most of them I feel like I'm taking poison. Remeron is very different, so far anyway. My psydoc told me to wean off the valium, but it's difficult if I'm not sleeping. Do you take anything with the Remeron?

I dont take nothing with the remeron, doesnt make me sleepy either, it may make u sleepy.. give it ago... on my leaflet of remeron says not to take any thing like valuim with it due to the sedating..
