Efexor-XR

Posted by Nutbar on November 10, 2003, at 2:52:08

Hi

I just started taking Efexor XR after coming off Aropax (Paxil) a year ago with horrendous side effects. It's only been a few days since I started taking it, but yesterday I was a few hours late to take the meds, and I got really dizzy. I'm hoping that this isn't a sign of withdrawals to come, once I'm feeling over my depression. But it's scaring me a lot now. I don't really know what else to do besides take the meds I've been prescribed. I've heard stuff about sleep therapy and light therapy - anyone heard about those? Had any success?

Discontinuing Effexor is not that bad if it is done very gradually, and also if an SSRI such as Prozac is given during the withdrawal period. Effexor is very safe as well as effective. Don't worry about the withdrawal.

Thanks Bill LL. Guess I'd just finally resigned myself to going back on meds. I spoke to my psych and he assured me that Efexor XR was relatively new and as an SNRI would act differently with less side effects than an SSRI. Then I decided to have a look online for myself and found all these posts - which scared the hell out of me. I just want to be med-free and happy. If that means taking meds just now to get myself ready to live med-free, then that's what I'll do. It's just hard to relax thinking that I might be in for a hard time when it comes time to back off the meds. I had a bad experience before on Paxil.

Paxil withdrawals were worse than Efexor withdrawals for me, although I did still have quite bad ones. But really nothing like 7 months Paxil hell!!

Also it is easier to come off XL really slowly because you can take the little beads out ... If it's working, it's worth sticking with :))

All the very best xxxx
