does anybody know if ...

Posted by Francesco on October 21, 2003, at 10:35:48

sorry for all these posts but it seems I have better nothing better to do this afternoon : )

I started Ritalin some days ago on a very low dose (5mg) and I was supposed to upper the dose to 30mg per day.

I didn't do it because I found that when I'm under the influence of the med (3 hours and an half today) I have the following problems:

1. diffulty from switching from task to task (getting locked)
2. sensation of dumbness
3. overfocusing
4. perfectionism

All of these end to deteriorate my cognitive performances.

Does anybody experienced similar problems on Ritalin at first and find them improving uppering the dose ?

I'm wondering if, given these results, uppering the dose would be a complete non-sense or could be justified. My actual diagnosis is ADHD inhattentive type, and I had OCD problem when I was a child.

Thanks

YES. i always tell myself i'll be able to fight it or handle it well enough, but it's so hard to realize it while it's happening-- and so often it's caused me problems (such as making my horrid procrastination even worse). And i am perfectionistic enough as it is. As much as i looove stimulants, i cannot STAND the overfocusing, the "difficulty switching from task to task," and the perfectionism they give me. i'm having that all this very night from about 8mg methylphenidate as i waste more and more and more and more time!

Absolutely not, unfortunately. The severity of these problems seems directly & positively correlated with the quantity of dose taken.

Thanks for your reply. Reading your post it seems I made the right choice because I quit the Ritalin after few days of trial. I'm currently taking 500-1000 mg of L-tyrosine per day and I'm glad to say it's working very well. Have you ever tried it ?
