Remeron and Weight Gain

Posted by Liz26 on November 1, 2003, at 18:56:27

Hi-
I started taking Remeron at the end of June and it has helped and at first I gained 10 pounds and I was really happy becuase I lost weight from depression, but now I gained about another 5 pounds and I am worried. I have been eating more because I do feel hungry a lot and I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience and if they were able to lose weight while on the medicine-possibly thru excerise or diet. Thanks
Liz

If you are very concerned about weight gain, you should stop using the drug now. Weight gain is one of the most common side effects of Rameron and the reason why most people stop taking it.

I took Rameron on the chance that I would be one of the lucky few who don't gain weight from taking it. Not only was I unable to lose the weight I gained while on Rameron, I was unable to stop gaining weight while on it. I have never been able to lose the weight that I gained while on Rameron (others have reported this effect also). This is unfortuneate cuz aside from the weight effect I found it to be an excellent antidepressant.

remeron is on of the best ad's i have taken for mood. unfortunately remeron made food taste 10 tens better than w/o remeron > i couldn't help but eat more b/c it tasted so good! usually in a situation like this i could work out and keep my appetite down. but remeron also made it where i could not exert myself during exercise. i ended up going from 170lbs. to 240lbs. and would have went higher if i stayed on remeron. i was able to drop 50lbs. in 3 months taking lexapro > which did nothing for my mood. currently washing out to possibly give parnate a try!
