What Now?

Posted by KimberlyDi on October 30, 2003, at 16:47:54

I've been on Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, Wellbutrin and Effexor (and Lexapro briefly). Effexor was my life-saver but I can't continue it because of high blood pressure.

I have a drinking problem so I wonder if I need something stronger on dopamine than serotonin. I don't know why I've had such success with 2 SSRI's (Paxil and Effexor.) I need a medication that helps with major anxiety and minor depression that won't interfer with Strattera.

I'm at a loss, going through effexor withdrawal, and terrified of going back into that black pit of depression.

I'm not bi-polar but I sometimes think I have minor *cycles*. A rare unusually great mood is often followed by a crash. I'm just a hodgepodge of problems, having very few symptoms of alot of disorders but nothing really grabbing the spotlight.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I see my pdoc on 11/4.

Would adding a beta-blocker to Effexor be an option to control your blood pressure levels? Someone mentioned this earlier in a post...just a thought

Amisulpride will raise dopamine at lower doses- I've heard good things about this. Also, I believe it's fine with Strattera.

Best,
Ace.

Actually, that combination could be quite fun :)

Wasn't that beta-blocker called "inderall"? i looked up on it and my only concern was that diabetes runs in my family (it warned about raising blood sugar levels). I'll mention it to the pdoc though. Thanks. :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the 'anti-psychotic' label- at a low dose 50-300mg- it acts more as an AD. The Risk of neurological probs and all that sorta thing is very low.

Good luck whatever you do,
Ace.

You might give Celexa a try, but seeing as you were using Lexapro, I cant say that it would work for you.

I did notice that I had less anxiety on Celexa then Lexapro and they dont seem to affect liver function in a manner incompatable with the consumption of alcohol, as other AD's can.

May I ask what symptoms the Strattera that you take is prescribed for ?

ADD symptoms. I say symptoms because I've never officially been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD but my son has. We're so much alike. I've always wondered if I had ADD too but didn't want the trouble of trying to get on Ritilin which was a controlled substance, triplicate forms, etc. Enough trouble to get it for my son. While reading the pamphlet for Strattera, a lightbulb went off in my head <DING>. "That's me".

Stratter and Effexor worked wonderfully well for me. Effexor just raised my blood pressure too much. And now I hate Effexor because of the b.s. of withdrawals. No more SSRI's for me.
