do libido killing side effects ever go away?

Posted by platinumbride on October 17, 2003, at 9:32:01

Because I am getting more depressed with every passing day, my shrink wants me back on lexapro and wants to add armour thyroid.
Maybe this is a pointless post, because frankly, who really wants to do the nasty when they are depressed?
(rhetorical question......thanks )

When will all of this crap end?
(another rhetorical question)

Hey Diane,

I have the same questions and, believe me, the much reduced desire problems won't go away until the meds do. Of course, it matters what you're taking. Zoloft, Prozac and Celexa all seem to have persistent reduced sex drive side effects, while Wellbutron, Disiprimine, Paxil and Lexapro are less problematic. I'm on Lexapro now and have experienced pretty good results, especially if you think weight loss is cool. My appetite is normal, energy is good and there are no sleep disorders. However, the diminished interest in sex is obvious. A beneficial side effect is much less intestinal trouble.

So, if you've just changed meds, or you haven't been on the new drug for at least 8 weeks, give it a chance. Otherwise, keep looking for the magic bullet and always insist on minimizing the side effects. [I had taken Paxil for 6 months and then went cold turkey! What a huge mistake, and my shrink didn't even mention or acknowledge this problem.]

Good luck.
