Posted by TonyIreland on October 15, 2003, at 11:17:09

Im on day 4 off withdrawl - just 1 week weening of it. How long does it take before the withdrawl symptoms disappear + the effects of celexa kicking in?

Ive noticed im worse in the morning.

Tony,
be prepared for a long haul, and also be prepared to change strategies, keep your doctor informed. If Celexa does work, which it doesn't for everyone, it takes a couple of weeks to kick in, and going off the effexor is a bear. How the ssri family of drugs affects different people, one working for some, not for another, is a conundrum even for the professionals. Do everything you can to keep the stress in your life to a minimum, during this time, although I know that's easier said than done. And consider the possibility of finding alternative treatments to drug therapy. They work well short term, but can do more harm than good long term, in my opinion. If you have deep psychological scarring, using drug therapy as a solution is, at best inadequate, like putting a bandaid on a femoral artery gash.

i've weened off 300mg xr in a week twice before. i was not starting a new medication during the process and for me, it took about 10 days before i started feeling ok. the withdrawal is rough but should be much easier if you are starting another AD. i would push the dose aggressively on your new AD - should minimize the withdrawal from the effexor. good luck.

not exactly answering your question, but something interesting nonetheless, I was on quite a high dose of effexor for about a month and a half before i decided to stop, and i stopped cold with no side effects whatsoever. this happen to anybody else?

Hi Tony, try taking Prozac for about three days...I did and it pretty much ended the withdrawal. Also, Benadryl supposedly helps with the cold/flu like symptoms...I don't know if it did for me or not--I just got so stoned on it I didn't care how I felt LOL!
But seriously, ask your doctor for a few Prozac pills...it should fix you right up.

Good Luck,
Karen
