Anxiety and l-amphetamine

Posted by BackOfClass on October 10, 2003, at 16:59:52

I have Social Anxiety, Agoraphobia, and ADHD/ADD. The main problem – comparing myself to others, obsessive about how I walk, lack of concentration/short attention span, feeling as if I am not saying enough, fear of disapproval or being inadequate, and worries of people *seeing through* me.

I take daily, at least 1mg, but up to 3mg of Klonopin, 5mg of Zyprexa, 100mg of Zoloft and 20mg to 40mg of Adderall. Before seeing a new psychiatrist, I was taking 20mg of Dexedrine, 200mg of Zoloft, at least 1mg of Klonopin and no psychotic.

When I was on the Dexedrine, not only did I feel much better, but others were attracted towards me. I was actually complemented on my new burst of self-confidence. I now take Adderall, but unlike the Dexedrine, the anxiety is more pronounced. I have researched and have learned that Adderall, unlike Dexedrine, contains l-amphetamine or levoamphetamine. There are studies that suggest that this increases anxiety to those who are already susceptible. I would like to know more information about this? Should I be taking Adderall if I have Social Anxiety? Also, to a psychiatrist who may be reluctant to prescribe Dexedrine, I need a good excuse so that I can get a prescription.

The thing is that my experience on Dexedrine was not glamorous! I lost a lot of weight and was told my face looked pale. My current psychiatrist knows about this and I don’t like it either, yet being on Adderall I look as healthy and weigh more then ever. This leads me to ask, is Dexedrine more affecting on weight then Adderall? I need to gain weight, not loose it, so would taking Dexedrine and Zyprexa (which increases weight) bring about the same outcome. I want to switch to Dexedrine but don’t want to look ugly.

I know this is a lot to tackle, but basically I want to know how Dexedrine compares with Adderall to individuals with social anxiety. Is, and if so, why does Dexedrine cause an more weight loss then Adderall and how can this effect on weight be diminished. Thanks for your help.

Buddy, i am exactly in your same position, i do have a slight problem with comparing myself and also im tring to switch to dexedrine. Anyways, first about the l-amphetamine thats the crappy amphetamine, it not only doesnt make you euphoric, but it only just adds a bunch of bad side effects such as anxiety or the "shakes" , and a bunch of other stuff. I've researched why it does this, mainly in the chemical world "levo" is really pretty much non-active in humans or anything organic(and only adds side effects), dextro (AKA dextroamphetamine) is the "active" isomer, and is the better amphetamine (makes you euphoric, much less side effects). The best out of all the amphetamine family is "meth" which you are proably quite aware of, but DONT get started on it becuase im still tring to break my addiction to crank. ( there is desoxyn which is prescription methamphetamine if you want to give it a shot, but dont be disappointed if he disapporves it)

Next i have slight social anxiety, and adderall does seem to make it worse, but it does really boost my self confidence, but im sure thats the d-amphetamine working, that trashy l-amphetamine gives me is the shakes! I havent done dexedrine, but i've hurd its alot more "smoother" than adderall, alot less anxiety which is why im trying to get prescribed it. I've done meth, it definatly is ALOT more powerful, superconfidence, and actually the anxiety isnt that bad, but dont do it becuase you'll get addicted.

Anyways, about getting prescribed dexedrine. First things first, dont directly tell him "I want dexedrine" becasue he'll think your a drug-seeking patient, and then you'll never get it. Tell him, i really dont think the adderall is working, and the dexedrine worked much better. He may put you throught several diffrent other drugs before he finally decides to put you back on dexedrine. Take my advice and use it wisely. buddy take it easy about the anxiety, if it really starts to get to you, go to the store and buy Valarian root, its in the herbal section. It really calms you down. Have any problems e-mail me. Later Buddy
