Best antidepressant

Posted by jms600 on September 23, 2003, at 15:08:58

Hi,

Can anybody tell me what they have found to be the best antidepressant in the treatment of depression & anxiety? I have just come off Zoloft/Lustral 100mg as it really wasn't doing anything to help. What drugs has anyone else had any success with?

There are so many choices and every person responds differently to each one with various dosage. Your best bet is to work with a good MD. who will walk through the process of finding the right ad for you.

It takes time and trial and error. Be patient and you will find something that will help you.

good luck to you !

Because the poster asked about medication which deals with both depression and anxiety. And also amisulpride has virtually no side-effects. Long-term there can be only problems due to rise of prolactin levels - so users who are prone to gyno - may get gynecomastia.

Sulpiride is considered "weaker" than amisulpride - for example its binding to D2 receptor is much weaker. But it could also be used.

There is no "best" AD drug, only ones that have some degree of appropriateness/inappropriateness for each individual case. And sometimes drugs are not even the majority of the answer.

I wanted type EVEN and not ECEN(sorry)...BTW, how can I delete an post that I posted accidentally or edit it?

About long term, you're right on amisulpride rising prolactin, but and about long term use and efficacy. Cicling it ot take all-year-round.
Plus, low dosages of pramipexole or even bromo couldnt kepp prolactine at normal levels w/o diminish its effects?

If it's a duplicate post, I'll take care of it sooner or later.

There's currently no way to edit posts. It's something that's been discussed, however, at Psycho-Babble Administration. Which is where further discussion about posting should be redirected, thanks.

Maybe you are allergic to it?
I've read many studies on amisulpride and side-effects are very rare, and the ones you mentioned are VERY very rare.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. Is Amisulpiride as useful as drugs such as Seroxat/Paxil or even the bezodiazepines in reducing anxiety?

Thanks!

For anxiety-induced depression, Klonopin (clonazepam) and Xanax (alprazolam) are the best ADs I've tried, even though they aren't "officially" ADs. Amphetamines are also very effective, although normally only are prescribed for ADD/ADHD. Strattera is also quite effective for me.

I've had little success with, and very bad side effects from, all of the "standard" ADs I've tried (SSRIs, Wellbutrin). But other people I know have had excellent results with Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Wellbutrin and co. -- it's an individual thing and requires trial and error.
