Anyone had experience with a higher dosage ?

Posted by Salty_dog on September 7, 2003, at 0:28:36

I have now finished the 4 day period at 450 mg and have elevated the dosage to 600 mg of Effexor XR.

This is by prescription, just to clarify.

Depression, what's that?

Please, someone respond, even if you have no experience a higher dosage!!

Wow! I didn't know it could go that high ... I thought 225 mg is the top level and sometimes, just sometimes 300 mg.

Is it working?

I mean if not, maybe something else would work better.

I'm sorry I can't help more ... never been on such a high dosage. Are you having any side effecs from it?

Can it be that a higher dosage is what is required before side-effects are NOT present? Or 'go away'?

i had a terrible time with effexor side-effects at 37mg --> then raised to 75 --> i don't remember if i ever dared the 150 that i was supposed to go to. i might have. but the awful side effects scared me into quitting it.

Thinking about it now, many years ago, i was on a 'higher than normal' dose of Zoloft (200mg) before i felt relief. Is Effexor like that?

I take 450 mg's of effexor xr and I have no side effects at all. It works for me at this higher dose.

My p-doc was going to bump me up to 450 from 300 but my insurance won't cover it. at 300mg, i'm feeling relatively zero side effects, besides the ones that I've gotten used to. Then again, I've given up on trying to have orgasms. Just please my partner & go to sleep. LOL.

At 300mg my anxiety was controlled but have some periods of depression slipping through. That's why the pdoc wanted to bump it up.

Keep us posted!

Thank all of you for your postings. I have noticed excessive sweating ( The second night I had to put a towel where I lay to soad up the impressive amount of fluid). The sweating is going away. I don't advicate using more than the recomended (225 - 300) dosage.
My Dr. is tracking my liver and WBC as well as being available for consultation if I have any un-announced side effects.
At 600 mg and holding, I have not had anywhere near the side effects that I had jumping onto 300 mg. I am not experiencing any gastro problems (nausea, ...) nor am I anorectic. I feel hot and hungry all the time (even when the temp is 60 indoors) but that is wearing off. I also seem thirsty (which is good considering the sweating). I have no depression and my anxiety is gone. The jitters have come to an end. I feel little tiny shocks or numbness in my hands infrequently, but that could be any of meds I am taking. The life saver is the Nuerotin, which has been prescribed to help combat the excitation. I am nocturnal (but what's new) and my Bi-polar is under control.
This was a total leap of faith. I am not angry or crowded and I have no proublem slowing down a little to enjoy the roses. I have regained my energy and initiative to get things done. I have said enough for a posting.

Actually, I do have the sweating too. I can't believe I forgot to mention this because it can be a pain in the butt at times. It is not nearly as bad as it use to be. I hope you are doing well.

Camille,
I went all the way up to 300 mg of effexor for about a year - was on 225 before that. This helped a bit but the side effects get worse. Effexor has blurred my vision. Effexor worked for me for a long time but it is my opinion that 300 is a high dose maybe another med would work better - talk to your doctor - I went through what you are going through. I am now off of effexor and on 50mg of zoloft which seems to be helping.

I have stopped having the sweats, what a relief.
In fact, all of the side-effects have gone away or never happened. It appears that higher dosage has an impact on side-effects. I am able to take a nap in the afternoon (like the good old days) and I have no trouble falling asleep at night. I also wake with a happy attitude. Good luck to you as well.
