Please help~Lex isn't covered---of course........

Posted by galkeepinon on August 26, 2003, at 14:42:04

Hi guys, well, my doc called and told me some dandy news~~Lexapro isn't covered by my insurance! So, we are going to try a C-Pass, so all I can do is wait, now I'm worried, this with the combo of Lamictal seemed so promising-if I can't get this Lexapro-I have no idea what I will do. Pay for it each month? How much does it cost? LOL No way! I can't do that. Anyone had experince with this. I know it's the insurance companies cracking down but this sucks grapes. (excuse the word sucks-even though it's not a cuss word but rather blunt) I'm really bummin. This ain't fair!!!! (I know life isn't fair) I just had a feeling this would happen. I knew Lexapro was a great med, that's probably why my insurance won't cover it:(
Any words of advice, hope, suggestions, please?
Thanks, as always,
galkeepinon

I'm tellin ya guys~~~God Bless PCP docs sometimes. Mine put me on Lexapro and gave me a samplepack to start with, when I finally went and filled the real RX it wasn't covered (which I thought would happen:( ) but I am so grateful that they are giving me samples to holdme over until and if the C-Pass gets approved. I hope everyone has decent insurance-this makes it tough sometimes for us!

Many of the drug manufacturers offer either reduced price or free meds to patients with low incomes or whose insurance won't cover the med.

I imagine you could go to the website for the co. that makes Lexapro and see if there's any info about such a program there, or if there is a toll free number mentioned on the sample pack you could call.

I'm going back several years now, but I had NO insurance period and my pdoc knew that the company that made the a-d I was on at the time had an "access to care" program for people in my position. I got a month's prescription every month for free for quite some time!

Good luck and what's a C-Pass???!!???

Hi Janelle:-) thanks for the info~I appreciate it~I will look into it~hopefully things will turn out ok.
A 'C-Pass' is basically prior authorization for a medication. A form that needs to be filled out by your doctor then submitted to your insurance company on why your doctor feels that the medication is well....medically necessary.
Hope that helped:-)
Take care.

Good luck getting the Lex! Maybe the C-Pass will help. The Doc could tell the Insurance company you need it to keep the voices and urges away. That and the little man that tells you to do things!

Seriously, let me know how it goes! Best Wishes, Treb

Hi Treb, thanks:-) I hear ya! I've done that in the past, but this time it's all an honest documentation. My psychiatrist is wonderful and he knows what to do. My insurance company knows everything I've been through and what meds they have covered, so I am praying they will give me leeway here. If not, the little man may tell me to something;)
have a good one!:-)
